In fact, Vincent Yates and Helena Larson were both not from South City. They had only settled down in South City after they got into the college in the city. Both Vincent and Helena were considered to be childhood sweethearts. Even after half of their lives had already been in their past, when Vincent walked down the memory lane and recalled the first time he had met
Helena, a doting smile would still appear on his face.
"Yvonne, do you know this? When I first met your mother, she was only five years old. I was not much older. I was a child as well and I was only one year older than her. However, I still looked as if I was much older. Your mother, on the other hand, had a small dirtied face with only two eyes exposed. However, when I just saw two eyes, I just felt that she was the most beautiful girl in the world and she certainly will become my wife in the future." Vincent smiled as he said that, tears that welled up in his eyes streamed down his cheeks.
When Vincent was just born, his mother passed away. It was his father who had single-handedly raised Vicent and his elder brother, Wymond. In order to ensure the family of three had food on the table and to have enough to put two children through college in the future, when Vincent was two years old, his father made a tough decision to put Vincent under the care of his seven-year-old brother. His father, on the other hand, worked odd jobs from dawn to dusk to make money.
The seven-year-old Wymond went to school while taking care of his young brother at the same time. He was very much discriminated against by his classmates and some of the parents at school for growing up in such an environment. Of course, the majority of the people still were incomparably sympathetic toward Wymond and his brother’s situation. Many of the parents wanted to help Wymond take care of his brother. However, Wymond was very unyielding and he had always resolutely refused them.
Sometimes, there were naughty little boys who bullied him for being a nanny and beat him up. Wymond then fought with them while carrying his brother on his back. As for his grades, it was only natural that Wymond had never gotten out of being among the last ten students in the class. However, he had taken care of his brother, Vincent, very well. His brother has relied on him very much.
Occasionally when their father made a trip home, his brother did not recognize his father and only wanted him. However, even if their father had only spent half a day at home, both the brothers would become familiar with their loving father very quickly again. The three of them, the father and sons, then played together.
Their father would prepare delicious food for them and let them sit on the small stools to make handmade toys in a serious manner. Those days were very poor, but they were incredibly happy.
However, God was extremely cruel to their family, who had already lost a mother. On one pouring night, when their father was on his way home after work, he was caught in a mudslide and was directly swept away. His body was not even recovered.
From then on, the two brothers were the only ones left in the Yates family. Vincent was four at that time. His brother was nine.
