"It's really not the fault of others, Kingston. It simply was because I was too vain and I didn't keep my feet on the ground. The loss that I caused the company was truly not something that I could compensate with money. At that time, the boss was truly very infuriated. If that translator had not sold our company's confidential information to the other company in the same field, which then led to our clients being snatched away by the other company, my boss probably wouldn't be so furious. The reason he was angry was mostly that I caused the company to suffer such a huge loss. I stood in front of the entire company like a criminal who had received the death sentence. With every word I say, I felt like my heart was being sliced by a knife. However, I can’t blame anybody. That kind of feeling that shooting myself in the foot truly made me feel so embarrassed that I wanted to hide in a hole. That was only the disgrace I left in regards to work."
She continued. "There was still my boyfriend. When he saw me up there during the meeting with all the staff in the company, he was completely stunned. During that meeting, his eyes were completely reddened. After that meeting with everybody, my time to be fired has arrived. Under the watchful eyes of every staff member in the company, I packed my personal things and ran out of the company like a street rat that was hated by everybody. In the end, when I was carrying all sorts of things and arrived at the reception, I saw my boyfriend there."
"He waited for you at the front desk?" Kingston asked as he was puzzled. "Did he want to break up with you?"
Eevonne shook her head. "Just like me, he was also carrying his personal items.”
"He was implicated by you, so he was also fired?" That truly was out of Kingston's expectation.
Eevonne shook her head again. "He resigned himself. He said he was too ashamed to stay in the company. Not even one day more. He didn't even want his salary anymore. He just resigned on the spot."
Kingston was speechless. It was after a pause that he asked her, "You love him very much, don't you?"
Eevonne cried inconsolably. "He really is a graduate from a good college. His family background is very good as well. He is a local and he has experienced plenty of things since childhood. When he was in elementary school, his father already brought him to travel all over Osone.
During the four years of his college days, he would travel abroad by himself every summer break, let alone travel within the country. He had been everywhere in the country. His family is actually not extremely wealthy. His mother is a high school teacher and his father is a lawyer. They were simply an average household in that city. If I was able to be married into that kind of family, that would truly be the wildest dream of my whole life. You can never imagine how much I long for that kind of family."
"You certainly would feel that if you’re able to be married into that kind of family, you certainly would be able to hold your head up high in your hometown. You should be a legend in your village, right?" Kingston could not help but ask.
Eevonne nodded. "Yes, that's right. But..."
She smiled miserably. "When both he and I met each other at the reception while holding our personal items, before I said anything, he raised his palm and slapped me aggressively across my face."
