Tears flowed down her face at the memory she had for the past two months, but very soon, she was able to anchor herself and regained her composure. She hurried to the bathroom and stared at her reflection o n the mirror. It took four hours with an ice pack on her cheek to finally reduce the swelling, but her face was still marked by the bruise that had ruined her beauty. Sabrina forced a bitter smile before putting the facemask back on. She wandered off to her bedroom to retrieve the box filled with jewels that Sebastian had bought for her as a gift. Within it, was a pair of bracelets she received from old Mrs. Ford.
The bracelets reminded Sabrina of the day she visited the old Ford residence. When the old Mrs. Ford told her, "I was going to give this pair of bracelets to your mother-in-law. It's a pity she died at such an early age without getting a chance to wear them."
Sabrina thought back to how desperately Aunt Grace had wanted to be a part of the Ford Family and immediately packed the bracelets, before heading out t o Grace's grave.
The graveyard was quiet and peaceful, surrounded by flowers. It was indeed a wondrous location for Grace t o be buried alongside her parents and sisters. Sabrina felt relieved that Grace wouldn't feel lonely in her afterlife.
Like the two times she visited, Sabrina kneeled before Grace's grave and murmured, "Mom, I might be seeing you soon in a few days. I don't think I'll be able to afford such a beautiful place, though, there might not even be anyone who would organize a funeral in my name, so I don't know if I would be able to find you in the underworld, or whether I would be able to recognize you at all. I'm so scared when I think of the possibility of not being able to find you or recognize you, which is why I am delivering this pair of chrismatite bracelets to you now. Mom, I wasn't in any position to buy you any present before when you were still alive, and now, I'm finally capable of giving you something. Do you like them, mom? If you can hear m e from the afterlife, please watch over your granddaughter, would you? Please watch over her so that Aino could grow up healthily. I'm begging you, mom." i
Sabrina bowed her head respectfully at the grave and pushed the coffin open to retrieve the small box that was placed next to Grace's ashes, where the emerald bracelet Sabrina received from Grace before was hidden. The bracelet had been there for the past six years without anyone noticing. Who would have thought that such a valuable item would be stored in the graveyard, next to someone's ashes? Sabrina added the chrismatite bracelets into the box as a tribute to Grace and also as a form of respect from her. 2
She carefully placed the box back to its original position and wiped the grave clean thoroughly with her handkerchief before leaving reluctantly. It was almost four in the afternoon when she walked out of the graveyard. Sabrina took a small mirror out from her handbag to check the state of her cheek and was relieved to find that the wound was now barely noticeable. Seeing that it was time for her to pick Aino up, Sabrina ordered a cab and went straight to kindergarten and arrived just in time to see Aino stepping out of her classroom. Aino instantly noticed her mother standing by the entrance and dashed towards Sabrina.
"Mommy, what happened to your face? Why are you wearing a mask?" She frowned worriedly.
"A-hem, well...mommy is sick and I don't want you to catch anything, so that's why I'm wearing a mask," Sabrina stuttered.
Aino seemed to have believed her excuse and relaxed, but soon resumed her adult-like demeanor and lectured, "Oh, so that's why. I thought you looked a bit pale before. Sigh...mommy, why are you always sick? It's only the first day of daddy's business trip and you are already sick! I guess you really cannot live without Stinky Bum Daddy here taking care of you. Never mind, I will tell Stinky Bum Daddy not to go on business trips from now on, I don't need more new toys. He should just stay home with you, so you don't get sick so often." 1
Sabrina was at loss for words at the fact that she had just been lectured by a young child when suddenly, a sharp shout came from behind them.
"Sabrina!"
