On the other end of the call, Marcus’s mother answered with a surprised tone. "Marcus, it's so rare for you to call me over the phone. I know that you're probably going to say something about Selene not being your cousin, and that it's supposed to be Sabrina. Marcus, does who it is really matter? It makes no difference, as long as they can comfort your grandpa's heart.
"Selene is doing a good job now, so isn't that enough?
"I know that you feel sympathy towards Sabrina, but she is doing quite well herself now. She's even married to the most powerful man in South City, so you should be happy for her instead."
Marcus waited for his mother to finish speaking before replying. "Mom, I’m not calling you about Sabrina or Selene. I just wanted to ask you about my aunt and uncle's death back then. Do you know the details of what happened?"
His mom seemed taken aback by his question." Marcus, why are you asking about this? Are you worried that Mindy doesn't have enough to live on? If you are truly worried about her, that does make me feel pleased. Don’t worry, her bank account may be frozen now, but I still have some private savings which is enough for her monthly expenses. With that said, I haven't sent it over to the Mann family yet.
"I want Mindy to learn how to restrain her temper first.
"That girl is much too arrogant.
"I have seen some improvements from her, but if Mindy goes back to being haughty again, it will be the death of her!"
Marcus’s mother spoke of Mindy with a tone full of love and affection.
The more he heard his mother dote on Mindy, the more suspicious Marcus started to feel.
However, he did not reveal his true feelings. Instead, h e simply said over the phone, "Mom, when I get home, please tell me about how my aunt and uncle passed away in detail. I also want to know more about the events that happened before and after their deaths. Don't leave anything out." 1
"Alright," his mother promised.
"Mom, I'll hang up now."
