"Today marks the day I bring my family back to the old residence and introduce them to relatives and friends. It's too happy a day to be caught up in this kind of trouble. Besides, there is something I will need to clarify to avoid causing further confusion to Ms. Lynn. It wasn't that it matters to me if Ms. Lynn has misunderstood me, but everybody knows that I'm a henpecked husband, so naturally I wouldn't want my wife to misunderstand the situation."
"Pfft!" This time, it was Yvonne who couldn't hold back her laughter. Yvonne was no longer as scared of Sebastian as she had been before, and had begun getting used to the man after spending a lot of time with Sabrina. Ruth, who was standing arm in arm with Ryan not far from her, was chuckling as well.
"You haven't seen such a humorous and caring side of my Uncle Sebastian before, have you?" Ryan asked.
"Mm-hm." Ruth nodded. She seemed to remember something and blurted out, "It's not that, it's just...I haven't really met Master Sebastian in person before, s o I wouldn't know what he is like. I've only heard rumors about how ruthless he is, but that doesn't seem to be the case now. He actually admitted to being a henpecked man." A longing expression emerged on her face as she spoke.
"Why? Jealous of your best friend for having such a
caring husband?" Ryan teased.
Ruth nodded and said gloomily, "Who wouldn't want a husband who loves them and takes care of them?"
"Don't worry! I can do those things much better than m y Uncle Sebastian!"
Ruth had to admit that she did have feelings for Ryan, but it was becoming more and more of a taboo for her t o imagine that she could marry him someday. She had come with a simple intention of enjoying the once -in-a-lifetime chance to see the residence of the wealthiest family in South City. But as she stood in these grand antique halls, she saw Sabrina being suppressed and bullied right before her eyes. Ruth had not been there when Emma and the others had ganged up on Sabrina, and yet she was still overwhelmed by guilt upon hearing certain details of what had happened. Now that she saw everything with her own eyes, Ruth suddenly realized the gap between Sabrina and her, despite their newfound friendship. Wealth might be tempting, but Ruth had learned that living her own life in peace was the most important.
Back when she used to cause all sorts of trouble to Sabrina, she would say, "I just want a job with steady income, so that I can be independent." At that very moment, Ruth finally understood how important of a mindset that was, which had led her to respect Sabrina even more. That was what life was supposed t o be! There was more dignity and freedom in choosing to work for her independence than to cling onto men from wealthy families.
"I hope that Master Ryan, too, will find someone that makes you want to become a better man, like Master Sebastian did with Sabrina," Ruth whispered next to Ryan.
"What did you say?" he asked.
"Nothing."
Just then, the butlers rushed back into the hall. "Mas-Master Sebastian, the biker is here and he brought along someone else."
"Let them in, then," Sebastian ordered.
Every guest in the hall was desperately trying to find out what the biker was here for and why it seemed so important to Sebastian. All eyes focused on the entrance while two people stepped into the hall, one o f them was a young man dressed in motorcycle suit who was supposedly the biker; while the other was a woman in uniform. The woman was holding a beautifully decorated box as she slowly approached Sebastian and Sabrina with a smile.
"Master Sebastian, the natural crystal heels you've ordered to be tailored made for Mrs. Ford to match her outfit has been completed. Mrs. Ford, if you would please take a seat, I will put them on for you."
Sabrina couldn't take her eyes off them. She knew that Sebastian had ordered a pair of heels for her, but she had never expected them to be made of natural crystal.
Sebastian took the box and looked at Sabrina. "Sit. I'll put them on for you."
