After learning her lesson, Ruth had become more cautious, and would avoid engaging in shameful acts whenever possible.
As such, before this incident happened, she wouldn't even so much as allow Ryan to hold her hand.
However, now that she felt indebted to him, Ryan felt a s if he had finally conquered the little vixen.
Right as he was about to kiss Ruth, Marcus and Yvonne suddenly barged into the room.
Marcus was the first to speak. "Ryan, what happened, are you badly injured?"
Yvonne, on the other hand, was more concerned about her friend. "Ruth, are you okay? You didn't hurt your face, did you?"
Ruth immediately turned around to look at them with tear filled eyes. She was clearly despondent.
After all, the only people who cared about her wellbeing now were the two new friends she had met not too long ago. On top of that, the one who saved her from disfigurement was her boyfriend, whom she had just agreed to be in a relationship with a few minutes ago.
Meanwhile, the people closest to her, her parents, didn't bother even showing up, despite the fact that it
was her mother’s call that had distracted Ruth from noticing Mindy and the bottle of acid.
When Marcus started to walk towards Ruth, she immediately leaned toward Sabrina in fright. At first, she thought that he would be on his cousin, Mindy’s, side.
Ruth stuttered nervously, "Uhm... Director, Director Shaw..."
"Did she hit you?" Marcus asked with a worried tone instead.
As she wasn't expecting to hear this, Ruth didn’t know how to react.
"She has been bullying you since you were children, right?" Marcus asked.
Ruth nodded bitterly but said nothing.
The sight of the pitiful woman in front of him brought Marcus great pain. To him, the word 'heartbroken' was not intense enough to describe the emotions he was feeling now. He thought to himself, could their family really be this unfortunate?
