Still Wanna Escape After Stealing My Heart? novel Chapter 782

Upon hearing that her mother was sick, Ruth's heart ached. "Mom...how did she get sick?"

"Because you pissed her off!" Her father snapped.

Ruth's voice trembled. "Dad, what exactly did I do wrong? Are you doing this to me simply because I refused to help my cousin? I can understand that you want to be nice to her because she lost her parents when she was still a child. I've never protested that you favor her over me. But she went as far as to attack me with sulfuric acid, and mom is angry at me instead? If you don't want me as your daughter, just say so, dad. I'll just stay away from now on. Don't worry, though, I will still pay every penny to support you and mom."

Ruth had never been so determined before until now. She was devastated!

Her father's tone softened at her words. "You have always had your parents right by your side for your entire life, do you have any idea how frustrating life could be for a kid without parents? Try putting yourself in her shoes. What if both of your parents are dead and you are given no choice but to live with your uncle? Wouldn't you wish that your uncle and aunt would treat you like their own, or even better? She doesn't have the luxury of love from her parents, can't you just cut her some slack?"

"Did I not do exactly just that?" she retorted in tears.' She has had everything she wanted ever since we were kids. The Shaw Family took care of her and she has lived comfortably amongst the elites. But what about us? We struggle to make ends meet, yet still we have to tend to her every need. What more could she possibly ask for? Was I supposed to go and kill someone if she asked for that? How could she hate me so much, simply because I refuse to harm Sabrina for her?"

Her father sighed. "Try seeing this through her eyes. She used to be a lady of high status, and suddenly she had everything taken away from her, even her accounts were frozen. How could she not be upset? It hurts for us to see her like this too, so maybe that's why we have been a bit too strict on you. But you are still our daughter. We can be strict to you, but how could you treat your cousin the same? How else can your mother and I face your uncle and aunt in the afterlife? Ruth, you are all grown up now, you know better. You need to understand that while you have your parents, your cousin doesn't. We have no choice but to demand more from you, because we can't ask that of her. Don't you understand?"

Her father tried to persuade her in an earnest tone. Ruth looked at him wordlessly. She had no grudge against her parents. Though she managed to stay with Yvonne every day, she still missed home.

"Your mother...I said that you pissed her off, but the truth is that she misses you. Your mother might have said some harsh things, but you are still her daughter. You asked her to tell your cousin that she isn't your mother's child, she didn't have the heart to do that."

"That's enough, dad!" Breaking down in tears, Ruth agreed. "I will go back with you to see mom."

"I'm glad that you understand." Her father's voice became gentler. "Let's go then, come with me now."

"Now?" She hesitated. She was out to buy Ryan his breakfast, would it be okay for her to go home before getting him anything? Still, she felt that she couldn't fill her mind with thoughts of a man like a Emophilia and neglect her mother when she was ill. After considering for a brief moment, she said to her father," Dad, just give me a second. I'll give Ryan a call first. I came down to get him breakfast and now that I can't, I'll need to get the nurses to buy something for him."

"Who?" he asked.

"Ryan," she repeated with a blush. It was only natural that she blushed at mentioning her man in front of her father, especially when he had only become hers a night before.
