When the three of them were still stuck in a daze, a bored voice rang out from above their heads.
"Sebastian! Faith really is a mysterious thing, even though I didn't know you had already taken absolute control of the entire island, but since the day I entered the Payne Manor, I made a backup plan for myself. I a m the only one who knows about this secret passageway that leads to the underwater tunnel. This i s an escape route that I prepared for myself! I will not admit defeat!”
"Never!”
The voice drifted further and further away until it finally disappeared altogether.
Sebastian immediately ordered his men to investigate the secret passageway. A short moment later, the soldiers found the entrance to the passageway and opened it. However, they realized it had been sealed from the other end after a short distance into the tunnel.
More than ten soldiers reported to Sebastian guiltily, blaming themselves for Holden's escape, "Master Sebastian, this is our fault. We have been hiding in this manor for so long, yet we failed to realize that Holden Payne had built this tunnel. In the past six years, he had never activated or even touched this mechanism before.”
Sebastian sighed faintly, "Never mind, just let him escape."
He never planned to kill the Paynes anyway. Although Sebastian followed the 'an eye for an eye' principle religiously, he never involved the innocent in his plans for revenge. The Ford, Payne, and Summer family had an intense and deep-seated hatred for each other about 40 or 50 years ago. The hatred even involved the loss of countless lives. However, all of that happened between the older generation, and all those that were directly involved were already dead.
Two of the four Payne brothers were already dead, and the remaining two hurt neither Sabrina, Sebastian, nor Aino. That was why Sebastian did not plan to be ruthless and kill them.
Sebastian was reminded of his past self when he saw Holden escaped defiantly. He used to be a vicious man and never admitted defeat to anyone. Holden was the same. He would never concede. Suddenly, Sebastian felt a sense of appreciation for the man who had escaped from one talented, driven man to another.
