Sebastian stared at Sabrina, his eyes widened with surprise. "What's wrong, Sabrina?"
"Don't do it, Sebastian. Please don't."
He cupped her cheeks in his palms and said, "Sabrina, once the old Master Shaw sees that Selene is the imposter, he will no longer try to protect her. You can deal with the Lynn Family however you want then."
She shook her head. She forced a bitter smile at him despite the tears in her eyes and said, "Don't you get it, Sebastian? The old Master Shaw hates me."
Sebastian sighed.
"He hates me to the bones," she continued miserably," Marcus had told me that I looked like his aunt from the first time we met. If even Marcus could recognize the similarity, do you really think the old Master Shaw couldn't? But still, he insisted on acknowledging Selene as his granddaughter, because he took a natural liking in Selene and instinctively wanted her t o be his granddaughter. This is nothing but an act of fooling himself into finding comfort in his selfishness. If they go for a paternity test tomorrow and I show him the undeniable proof that I'm his granddaughter, and he still hates me, how upset I would be, Sebastian? If my mom knows that my own grandfather hates and despises me despite knowing that I'm his real granddaughter, and that there was
proof to it, how sad would she be?"
Sebastian understood how she felt. Back when the Fords refused to accept him and his mother, he was exiled despite the fact that he knew he was the fourth son of the Ford Family. His heart bled at the reality of not being acknowledged, therefore, he no longer felt any affection towards the Fords, his grandfather and father in the present.
"Sebastian, my mom is right here in this city, watching over me with those caring eyes all the time. She must know that the old Master Shaw has been searching for her all these years, but why didn't she go home to reunite with her family?" Sabrina looked at him with tears welling up her eyes again.
Sebastian froze. He had never taken that into consideration, but Sabrina did. She had thought through the assumption in her mind over and over again. She simply hadn't shared her thoughts with her husband, until now. At that moment, Sabrina decided t o voice out her view on the matter.
"I heard from Marcus that his aunt stayed with the old Master Shaw's mistress from a very young age. The mistress actually stole the child and so for all that time, the old Master Shaw had thought that the mistress was the mother of his daughter. Therefore, h e never spared that daughter of his a second glance. Are children not supposed to receive love from their fathers simply because they were mothered by mistresses? Just like how Lincoln Lynn treated me? H e could toss me aside and try to kill me when he
despises me, but one day, Selene is gone and there isn't anyone else that could take care of him when he i s old. Am I to go on ahead and care for him when he finally remembers me? Am I that cheap?"
Sebastian nodded. "I understand. You are your mother's daughter, after all, your hearts must be connected in some way. You can feel her despair when she was abandoned, can't you?"
"My mom must want nothing to do with the old Master Shaw for the rest of her life," she continued in tears, "so I don't want to, either. I would rather wait for him to pass away of natural causes before I take revenge on the Lynn Family, instead of submitting to him even for the slightest. I refuse to!"
Sebastian tightened his arms around her. "Of course!"
She looked up at him and added, "However, the old Master Shaw is overall a just person in other aspects who deserves respect, especially with the huge favors he did for you and your mom, which is why you need t o treat him well and respect him, Sebastian. Don't go against him, I can wait. Don't worry, the Sabrina Scott you know is the most persistent person. My perseverance is unmoving, so you don't have to worry about me. You simply need to focus on being by the old Master Shaw side as he grows old and one day, he will be gone. With him gone, we won't have to hold back any longer."
His heart ached at Sabrina's words. He had always been known for his ruthlessness and there wasn't a soul in South City that did not fear him. Everyone knew that he would not hesitate to kill or make someone disappear without anyone noticing. And now, the entire South City knew that Sebastian treasured his wife more than life itself, when the truth was that he couldn't avenge his wife when it truly came down to it.
