Substitute Bride and Her Husband Who Disappeared novel Chapter 155

Charlie moved up close, his right arm sweeping around her, drawing her into a tight embrace.

He gently kissed Nancy's forehead before effortlessly lifting her into his arms. As he began to walk, his voice dropped low, "Get him to the hospital, and then alert the Caines. If Alexander thinks he can lay a hand on my woman again, I'll wipe them out."

His words hung heavy in the air, causing Luna, Director Grant, and the deputy director to shudder. His icy threat was clear - he meant business.

For a moment, everyone was frozen in their tracks. Then, Director Grant sprang into action, hurrying to help the fallen Alexander and calling for medical assistance.

Charlie cradled Nancy as they made their way into the car. She clung to him, sobbing quietly. Charlie held her close, his lips pressed together, his eyes cold and hard.

Tom, their driver, didn't ask any questions, sensing the tension. The car ride was silent, broken only by Nancy's occasional sniffles.

Soon, they reached their hotel. Charlie carried Nancy from the car into their room despite her protest that she could walk by herself.

Once inside, Charlie laid her gently on the bed, his eyes scanning her for any signs of injury. "Are you okay? Do you feel any pain?" He asked. Nancy shook her head, "No." Seeing his worry, she reached out her arms to reassure him, "I'm okay. Look, I'm fine."

Charlie sank next to the bed, letting out a sigh of relief. His lips remained pressed together, a sign he had more to say, but for the moment, he stayed silent...
