Substitute Marriage With the Illegitimate Son novel Chapter 746

Laney shook her head and smiled wistfully. "Oh, it's not like that. I was just thinking about the days we were still in Seacisco. We used to be so carefree! Now that I live with the Harding family... Well, everyone there pays attention to their manners. I totally get it since they are a noble family. I just sometimes feel as though I'm walking on eggshells."

Janet could tell that her friend was unhappy, so she patted her on the shoulder in an effort to comfort her. "The sooner you accept the reality, the better. You've changed so much, Laney. I almost didn't recognize you earlier."

Hearing this, Laney smiled bitterly.

After ordering, she handed the menu to the waiter and sent him away. To Janet, she said, "It's hard. I just don't want to disappoint Garrett. He quit his job at the Larson Group to come work for the Harding family for my sake. I also want to do my best to please his family, but sometimes it's really difficult."

During the past few months' of etiquette classes, Laney had had a hard time.

And since Garrett had taken over the family business, he had been busy with work all day long and rarely came home to see her.

Laney was a woman who loved martial arts and yearned for freedom. Everything that used to be tied to her identity were buried since she married into the Harding family. She sometimes didn't even know if there was still meaning to her life.

As time went on, she became more and more confused and frightened, afraid that she would be trapped by Harding family's rules all her life.

It was almost like prison.

Thinking of this, Laney felt suffocated.

Janet's heart sank as she saw the helplessness in Laney's eyes. "If you're really unhappy, why don't you talk to Garrett about it?"

"Garrett is... a hothead. If I say anything that might hint at my unhappiness, he'll go straight to his mother and argue with her." Laney sighed heavily. "But what's the use of fighting? In the end, it'll still be me who suffers, so I don't say anything. Anyway, all the members of the Harding family have accepted me, even though it's just because I'm pregnant."

Janet shook her head. "Laney, stop thinking like that..."

In her eyes, Laney should've trusted Garrett more.

"Garrett is more responsible than you think. He'd hate to see you suffer. You should at least have a talk with him, okay?"

After a long silence, Laney murmured, "I don't know about that anymore..."

The more they talked about Laney's life, the more depressed she became.

Fortunately, the food was ready and was soon served.

Janet looked at the lunch spread and found that almost everything Laney had ordered was green vegetables.
