Once the director of the prosecutors' office, Derrick, spoke, the expression of the young tax collector standing before Sean changed instantly.
He was not the only one. The expression of the other tax collectors behind him became horrified too.
Derrick and Gabe strode over.
When they arrived, Derrick looked at the young tax collector and said with a sneer, "What's the matter? Do you even refuse to greet your old boss now?"
The tax collector quickly approached Derrick, bent slightly over, and said with his head down, "Hello, Director Crate... Why are you here, Director Crate?"
"Do I need to inform you wherever I go?"
Derrick said bluntly.
"No, no, no, that's not what I meant..."
The tax collector shook his head, panicked.
Derrick looked at Sean and said with a chuckle, "Commander, this tax collector is Benny Craig. He used to work in the prosecutors' office and was transferred to the taxation bureau because there was a shortage of staff. Now he's a captain at the taxation bureau."
"I see."
Sean nodded with a smile and looked at Benny.
Benny only threw his weight around in front of Sean, even threatening him. He was utterly haughty.
However, he was now a meek man with an awkward forced smile. His hands had nowhere to put as they rubbed together for a while before pinching the hem of his clothes. He looked like a kid about to get punished by his parents for making a mistake.
Other tax collectors were also awkward.
Benny was shocked. He never expected the director of the prosecutors' office, Derrick, and Chief Police Wholeton to be here.
These two people were important officials in Midwich. Though they were not top brass, the power they wielded was intimidating enough.
