"Is that what Curtis bought you for your birthday? I can't accept that.
"It's just a piece of emerald. Old Master Lake, don't take it to heart. Everyone in Ocean City knows you like antiques and paintings. I won't take away what you love.
"I won't take Moon Lake Painting."
Mr. Winters waved his hand and said with a smile.
Kennedy froze slightly, looking a little anxious as if he wanted to say something, but Mr. Winters interrupted him with a wave.
Kennedy said nothing more.
With Mr. Winters' position, he could get anything he wanted.
That imperial emerald and the Moon Lake Painting were precious to everyone else, but it was nothing much to Mr. Winters.
"The patriarch of the Willard family, Chester Willard, presents an emerald pendant and a pair of bracelets to Old Master Lake, wishing him happiness and a long life!
"The chairman of Tiara Group, Benjamin Settler, presents a pair of antique vases for Old Master Lake, wishing him a long life!
"The patriarch of the Xavier family, Clifford Xavier, presents a painting to Old Master Lake, wishing him a long and healthy life!"
...
One of the Lake family's servants announced each of Kennedy's birthday gifts and congratulatory messages given by Ocean City's dignitaries.
Although there was no mention of the value of these birthday gifts, everyone knew none of them were cheap.
The status and power of the Lake family and the guests of the 50th birthday banquet were obvious, so there were no inferior birthday gifts.
The birthday gifts represented the giver's attitude toward the Lake family as well as their pride.
"Gosh, I've seen the emerald pendant Mr. Willard gave at an auction. It was sold for five million dollars, but it was given to Old Master Lake as a birthday gift today.
