Mia bit her lip in frustration. “Hubby, when are you going broke?”
Laughter rang out around them. Most wives would wish for their husbands to be wealthy, but in a surprising twist, Mia hoped for the exact opposite.
Andre playfully nudged his wife’s nose. “That might be a bit difficult.”
Molly chimed in, turning to her father. “Dad, do I get a reward if I have a daughter?”
Hansen’s expression hardened. “Why are you even talking about having kids? You shouldn’t even be thinking about marriage. Isn’t it great to be a carefree rich lady?”
On this point, Kendrick and Hansen were in agreement. “There are so many independent women these days. You can be happy without getting married. Marriage just brings endless troubles from the in-laws. Why put yourself through that?”
Molly was speechless. Why did her family have a double standard?
“Mia, go back and divorce Andre. Didn’t you hear what your father-in-law said? What’s so great about marriage? Isn’t being single fantastic?” Molly was known for her sharp tongue.
She then turned to Anya, who was always by Leo’s side. “Anya, don’t marry Leo, okay? Why bother with marriage and children? Just be the spoiled princess of your family.”
Finally, she looked at Chad. “Don’t bother getting married. There are so many independent women these days. We don’t need men.”
Anya’s cheeks turned a bright red when Molly mentioned her marrying Leo. “Aunt, stop making things up.” Anya looked up at Leo. Her eyes were sparkling. Her face grew even hotter.
Leo didn’t notice Anya’s blushing face. He pointed at Molly. “I can’t wait to see how Andre is going to deal with you.”
However, Andre simply looked at his wife and smiled. Then, he said to his sister, “Mia would never dare to ask me for a divorce.”
Molly turned to Mia, who nodded in agreement. “Molly, Andre is rich. I’m not gonna divorce him.”
Andre was satisfied. Ms. Cedillo was disgusted. Leo, who was ready to fight, was displeased! Only Hansen was visibly upset. His brow furrowed in anger.
Grandma Aubree watched her talented grandson. “Chad, you still need to get married. We can’t let the Byrne family line end.”
Chad gave his grandmother a smile. His gaze flicked between his father and Hansen, who was also advocating for Molly to stay single. His smile didn’t reach his eyes. He leaned back in his chair, with his hand resting casually on his knee. His fingers gently tapped in rhythm as he lost himself in his thoughts.
“Mia, are you planning to stay with us after giving birth?” Molly asked her best friend.
Mia shook her head. “No, I’ll be staying in Maplewood Estates. After the baby’s full month celebration, I’ll consider coming back. My mom will take care of me, and it’s more convenient to stay in Maplewood.”
