Molly, exhausted but not quite ready to sleep, nodded in agreement.
Sometimes, Chad's relentless teasing got to her. She had twisted the bedsheets into wrinkles, her breathing all out of sync.
Chad stopped and got up to take a shower.
Molly took the opportunity to text Mia, "Let's catch up next weekend. I'll come over to your place."
This time, Mia didn't reply.
When Chad returned to bed, Molly kept her distance, nearly sleeping diagonally to avoid him.
Chad stretched out his arm, "Come on, let's sleep. I won't touch you."
Suddenly energized, Molly couldn't help but retort, "Pfft, as if I can believe a word men say."
Chad sat up, and Molly immediately hid under the covers in fear.
Chad chuckled, then reached under the covers, pulling Molly, blanket and all, into his arms...
Molly’s experiences taught her that you really can't trust what men say.
The next morning, while everyone else went to the diner for breakfast, Molly slept in alone.
Coleen glanced at her son, hinting, "Still not awake?"
Chad replied with a smile, "I’ll bring her some breakfast later. She went to bed late last night."
Coleen laid down the law to the family, "When we get back, I'm bringing up Molly joining the company, and none of you are to coddle her."
Between Grandma Aubree, Grandpa Elmer spoiling their granddaughter, Kendrick doting on his daughter, and Chad loving his wife, they all indulged Molly. Only Coleen was trying her best to pull Molly out of her comfort zone.
Because Molly “slept in,” they didn’t leave until nearly noon.
Eventually, they stopped for lunch at a local joint before heading home.
On the highway, it was just Chad and Molly in the car.
Molly was unfairly blamed for the morning’s delay and was giving Chad the silent treatment.
Officer Chad, feeling guilty, confessed, "Mom’s laid down the law. She wants you to start working at the company, and none of us are supposed to spoil you."
Molly retorted, "I’d rather work at the company and then go stay with the Cedillos. I’ll keep my distance from you. Find someone else to play wife."
Chad glanced at her and asked in a good-natured tone, "Tired? Want to nap in the car?"
“Slept enough. Are we doing another 'workout' tonight?”
Officer Chad was at a loss for words.
Molly’s phone rang - it was her friend, finally getting back to her.
“She had a long lunch break, so she came to the office to pick up her son. After lunch, while watching her son play, she sent Molly a video of the little guy, "Henry wanted to video call you last night but couldn’t reach you."
Seeing her beloved nephew, Molly suddenly remembered something.
She put down her phone, looking puzzled at Chad, "Did you… remember protection these last few times?"
Chad was taken aback.
Seeing his silence, Molly was stunned.
When they got home, it was already late afternoon. After sending the family off and unloading the luggage, Chad rushed back out.
By evening, Molly noticed something all too familiar on her bedside table – a box and a pregnancy test.
