Scarlett raised her eyebrow in surprise, "Rarely did I hear a man say that."
"It's just a matter of personal preference."
"Yeah, and it’s a good thing," Scarlett smiled.
Then for a while, they both just concentrated on the food and chatted little, for they were both a bit hungry. After finishing up the barbecue, Scarlett cleaned her mouth, took another sip of the coffee, and then asked Antony with a meaningful look in her eyes, "Let me guess. You are here not just to eat some midnight snacks with me, right?”
Scarlett was always this sharp, and Antony could only smile with embarrassment and reply,
"Well, I do have a favor to ask."
"I'm all ears."
Scarlett was unexpectedly straightforward, which made Antony feel it hard to find the right words, "Here is the thing. I went out to answer a phone call earlier tonight, remember?"
Scarlett nodded, and let him continue.
"It was from my mother's bestie, my godmother.
Though my family has lived abroad for many years, w
e kept frequent contact with my godmother's family, and we love and care for each other. It could be said that she is just like my mother."
Antony paused. "Well, the thing is, you know how much those elders want to see the younger generation get married and have a happy family, right? My mother did not push me when I was younger, but these one or two years...she started to get a bit worried knowing that I'm still single. Likewise, my godmother started to set me up with some girls knowing that I've come back from abroad."
"I don't like it when the elders worry too much about m y personal things. Besides, I think I've already had a crush on someone. So, I refused all the dates my godmother tried to arrange for me, and told her that I was already in a relationship."
Hearing this, Scarlett could guess what trouble Antony might be in, "You think she would just give up, but she said that she wanted to meet your girlfriend?"
Antony touched his nose in embarrassment, "Like those dramatic stories in the soap operas, I know."
Scarlett casually fiddled with the cup in her hand," Not really."
Then she said after a pause, "So, you are actually here today to ask me to pose as your girlfriend?"
"Yes."
Antony had no intention to hide his purpose since Scarlett had seen him through.
Scarlett looked down at the cup in front of her, "I don't like to deceive others."
Hearing her words, Antony was not quite bothered at all, "It’s okay. I'm asking too much, after all."
