Right at that moment, Jay received a call from Charles asking him to join for a drink at the "old place".
The so-called old place was the Shades Bar, which was often visited by Charles and Jay during summer vacation. This bar was the most luxurious place in the city. Rich and famous people of the city visited there frequently as they were given special treatment there.
So Jay decided to stand Doris up.
Then he drove to the bar to have a drink with Charles.
Sitting at the table, Doris played with the candlestick. Jay had told her that he would come back to join for dinner, but he still didn't show up.
Jay was a liar, a total liar!
She lay on the table filled with dishes and glanced away through her narrowed eyes. She became more and more sleepy and gradually fell asleep.
At about twelve o'clock in the midnight, Jay came back. He thought that Doris should be already asleep at this time, but when he walked into the living room, he saw the candle light in the dining room.
Then he pulled off his tie, changed into slippers and walked quietly into the dining room.
He saw Doris asleep, lying on her arm, bending her head sideways. The candles were about to burn out and the candle wax kept dripping on her forehead, making her hair sticky.
The dishes served on the table were already cold.
'This woman has been waiting for me?' he thought.
"Our dining room is not the right place to sleep. You have to sleep in the bedroom!" growled Jay. For some reason, he got angry abruptly.
Hearing his voice, Doris opened her eyes immediately. She looked so adorable with her sleepy eyes.
"You... Wait, I'll just heat up the meal quickly," Doris said in a half-sleepy tone.
"I've already eaten!" After saying that coldly, Jay turned around and was about to leave.
"You have eaten?"
Glancing at the porridge she cooked, she said, "But, I haven't eaten anything yet, Jay."
Hearing this, Jay walked back with a smile and said, "Okay, heat up the porridge..."
"Okay, just give me two minutes. I'll heat it up now." That was great! What she wanted was to make him eat porridge.
She immediately left for heating it up and then returned with a well-filled bowl of porridge. "I made this porridge especially for you. It's very delicious. I promise you'll like it."
"Why don't you eat it?" asked Jay, holding the bowl in his hand. The weird aroma in it was tempting.
"Of course I will eat it." In order not to be discovered, she filled a bowl of porridge for herself. Since she knew the effect of the flowers, she only took a sip of it.
However, just after taking a sip, Jay thought, 'This porridge tastes very unique. Has she done any mischief?' "Aren't you hungry? Then why don't you eat more?" Jay asked suspiciously. He kept knocking on the table with his hand, and stared at her with his vicious eyes.
Raising her head, she glanced at the electronic clock on the wall. "Yes. It's late. And I haven't had my dinner, yet. How can I not be hungry?"
Then she took a bowl of rice.
Her panic, which she tried hard to hide, was caught by Jay. He was sure that there was something wrong with the porridge she made.
His hand pressed against her hand, and the in next second, he leaned over and said, "The rice is cold, Doris. You'd better have some porridge."
"But, I'm very hungry!" She felt herself to be so useless that she couldn't even be a "bad person".
It was evident from his response that he sensed something unusual.
"You just said that it’s already late, and in general, people shouldn't eat anything two hours prior to bed. Since you are hungry, you'd better have some porridge now. Well, to thank you for the dinner, I will feed you." With those words, Jay grabbed her into his arms forcefully. He grabbed the spoon and put the porridge near her mouth.
