The Adorable Twin’s Sticky Daddy novel Chapter 264

The more she thought about it, the angrier she became. It was so frustrating that she couldn't shut the thought off her head. To let it all out, she threw the phone away and closed her eyes to sleep.

While lost in her dreams, she was pulled back to reality when her phone rang suddenly.

The next thing she knew was she was already sitting on her bed wondering who could be calling her so late at night. Who else could it be except for Charles?

At the thought of him, Nancy's mood lightened, and she was happy in a snap.

Excited to answer the call, she hurriedly took the phone.

However, to her dismay Doris' name appeared on her phone. It wasn't Charles after all and that disappointed Nancy.

While she was holding her phone and staring at the blinking screen, Nancy was speechless. Doris was supposed to be asleep by this time. She was pregnant and staying up this late wasn't good for the baby.

Why would she call in such an unusual time? What could be wrong? Was she bored and just wanted to talk to someone? As she was confused at the unexpected call, Nancy's head was occupied by questions.

At that one instance, when she told Doris that she could talk to her anytime, it was just superficial. She merely said that to make her feel good. As a thoughtful friend, Nancy, didn't expect that Doris would take it seriously and wanted to chat with her so late.

It all made sense to Nancy as Doris was a woman full of insecurities. Whenever she had a bad mood, she felt that everyone would leave her.

Considering how odd she was as a person, Nancy thought that Doris was way too different from Jay. Yet, whatever their differences were, their friendship was worth treasuring. They had been tested by time and polished by a lot of misunderstandings as well as forgiveness.

With that, a faint smile was drawn on Nancy's face as she answered the phone.

"Hello, Doris. Isn't it late? Why aren't you in bed yet?" Nancy asked slackly.

"Hi, Nancy did I wake you up? I can't fall asleep because Jay isn't home yet. I'm worried for I know that he's such a womanizer. I know he's just playing around with women. No one can win his heart, neither can I," Doris said in a sad tone evident in her voice.

Caught in between her friends, Nancy didn't know what to say. She could only cover-up for Jay without hurting Doris at the same time.

"What made you think about that? He might be busy. Don't worry, and Jay won't make any trouble. You are just overthinking. Stressing yourself out and being anxious like that will affect the baby in your womb. Pregnant women should always be happy and relaxed. You of all people should know that, Doris. Don't you give your patients the same advice as a doctor? How can't you know about such things?" Nancy consoled and advised her in a soft tone. Pausing for a while, Nancy continued, "Look, Doris, Jay must have gone out to attend a social engagement. Charles isn't home yet either. Maybe the two of them are together."

"But Jay didn't tell me where he was going today. Also, he never mentioned about any social engagement. I can't help worrying about him," Doris said in a low spirit. Nancy could imagine how low-spirited she looked on the other end of the line.

"Well, honey why don't you just go to bed and have some sleep for now. For sure when you wake up Jay will be there!" Nancy coaxed her friend in the most soothing way she could.

"I have slept for a while but was bothered waking up without Jay. How can you guarantee that he will be here when I wake up again?" asked Doris with a stubborn tone.

At the thought of Doris' question, Nancy realized that she indeed couldn't guarantee such thing to happen, simply because she didn't know where Jay went.

"Haven't you tried calling him to ask where he went? Or who is he with?" implored Nancy after thinking for a while.

"I did call him, but it didn't get through. Can you call Charles and ask him if he is with Jay?" Doris responded. Nancy could feel that she was extremely anxious. Thus, she was left with no choice but to help relieve Doris out of her worry.

"Okay, I'll call him right now. Just give me a minute," Nancy responded and held Doris on the line. Scrolling on her contact list, she found Charles' contact number and called him.

Not a ring was heard, no busy tone or a voicemail saying that the phone couldn't be reached. Charles' phone was off. That was unusual of him, and that surprised Nancy at the moment.

She tried dialing again but still no response from Charles. With that, Nancy was baffled. 'What could have happened to the two of them? No matter what they were doing, it was not their habit to turn off their phones.
