The Adorable Twin’s Sticky Daddy novel Chapter 382

With her lips slight trembling and eyes evidently apprehensive, Doris grabbed Felix's clothes tightly.

"It's okay, I'm here," the latter comforted, sensing her uneasiness. The unfamiliarity of the man, standing with a domineering posture, frightened Doris like a child.

And as she hid behind Felix's broad back, tears began to well up on the corners of her eyes.

Nothing about Jay seemed to hit home in Doris' mind. And the more she looked at the man, the more foreign she felt.

"Doris, although our relationship has not been made public, we are already married! The law had mandated us to be together and spend the rest of our lives together! So, come on! Go home with me, please?"

Jay imitated Felix's soft, loving tone, hoping that his wife would warm up to him. But because it was so out of his character, he ended up sounding very awkward. Even Hanson and his subordinates couldn't help laughing at how silly their boss looked right now.

The former must have really scraped the bottom of the barrel to mention the law in this situation.

Although it was indeed hilarious, they knew Jay was right—the law could really back him up.

After all, they had signed marriage certificates to prove everything he was claiming. So, no matter how much she denied it, Jay would still prevail.

"Really?" Disbelief was written all over Doris’ face as she listened to the man's explanation.

"Come home with me and see for yourself! If you stay here, I'll have no choice but to tell the police that you're committing bigamy. And don't say that the baby you're carrying is Felix's. This has nothing to do with him. I'm the father of that child." The poor man, who was on the verge of losing his patience, tried his best to sound calm. He didn’t want to frighten Doris even more, so he took a deep breath before talking in a softer tone.

Meanwhile, after hearing Jay mention the law and the police, Felix didn't dare to force Doris to stay. After all, he knew that the man was from a wealthy and influential family, so it was highly possible that the authorities would get involved in this case.

So, he had no choice but to withdraw his hand from her shoulder. And as his jaw hardened, he distanced himself from her.

"Ah, yes. Doris, you can go back with Mr. Fang for now, but know that you are always welcome to come back here," Felix's mother said, chuckling lightly to reassure the young woman that everything would be alright.

"Felix, should I go back with him?" Doris asked as if her childhood sweetheart was the only man she trusted. After all, she had a bad feeling that if she went back with the cruel and unreasonable man—Jay— something terrible would happen.

"Well, you go back first. If he tries to hurt you, just tell me." After saying this, Felix gave his phone number to Doris. He knew that this was the only thing he could do to make sure she was safe. A poor man with no power and influence was just an insect compared to the giant that was Jay. If he were to insist on keeping her here, Felix knew that things would go out of his hands.

"Okay." Doris lowered her head as she answered in a low voice. It was evident that the woman was merely forced, and it wasn't in her full intention to go with a complete stranger.

So with heavy and slow steps, she walked up to Jay, still keeping her eyes on the floor and not wanting to see his face.

"You're a lioness and not a mouse, Doris! Your timid look really makes me feel strange!" Jay muttered, holding her hand tightly.

However, at the sudden touch of his palm on her skin, Doris quickly shook his hand and withdrew hers subconsciously.

"How do you know I'm that type of woman?" she snarled angrily, this time raising her head and piercing the man with her sharp eyes.

At the sudden sight of this, Jay couldn't help smiling. Now, that was the Doris he knew—a feisty woman who wouldn't let anyone demean her. However, he knew he couldn't keep aggravating her; otherwise, it would only make her more distant and cold.

For now, the most important thing was to take Doris home as soon as possible. So, after Doris agreed, Jay quickly took her home.

Doris settled herself at the back and sat like a frail kitten. Her eyes surveyed the interior of the luxury car as if it was her first time riding one.

At the same time, Jay felt odd as he watched her look and act that way. It was a far cry from the Doris he knew.

In fact, he had never seen her like this before.

His wife had never been such a fragile and delicate woman who needed protection. Ever since he met her, Doris had always been strong and tenacious, but now, she looked depressed and broken.

Along the way, the car was filled with a dense atmosphere, heightened by the cold air blowing from the air-conditioning. And as Jay kept staring and watching her, he couldn't help but sigh.

"Doris...” he whispered.

But even though his voice was soft, Doris jolted and immediately sat up straight. "Yes!" she answered like an army soldier.

Her terrified reaction surprised Jay, who felt even more helpless.

"Doris, don't be afraid of me. I'm your husband, and I love you very much. You're even carrying our baby, so please don't act scared." Jay coated his voice with a loving and comforting tone, hoping that it would calm his wife.

"Oh, I see," the latter answered perfunctorily, lowering her shoulders and timidly bowing her head.

"How about you call Nancy?" Jay thought that if she heard Nancy's voice, perhaps she would remember something.

At least, Nancy's tender voice would feel better than a man's stern tone, right?
