Charles sighed helplessly and shook his head in defeat.
"Kids, get in the car. Let's go home." He then opened the door and carried the children inside.
The way his nose flared showcased how angry he was at that moment.
In fact, even the way he stepped hard on the gas pedal and maneuvered the car so fast was enough proof that he was fuming.
Meanwhile, Nancy drove carefully, taking her time to traverse her way home. As a result, she arrived a little bit late.
When she finally got home, Charles and the kids were not in the living room. She figured that they might be in either the study room or toy room.
What Charles had done today in the sanatorium surprised Nancy a lot. She wasn't expecting that at all, especially given their current situation.
And for that, she knew she owed him a little.
So, Nancy went to the kitchen to cook Charles' favorite steak and clay pot chicken rice.
And while she busied herself in the kitchen, Charles was occupied tucking the exhausted kids to bed.
Half an hour later, Nancy was done with all the cooking and prepared the dishes.
Then, she prepared to head upstairs to take a shower and go to bed.
Knowing that Charles might still have been a little mad, Nancy thought that it was better not to provoke him even more. Otherwise, they would have another row.
"Is it so difficult for you to accompany me for a while?" Charles asked coldly after going downstairs and seeing that Nancy was about to leave.
"No, it's not. Why do you ask? I just want to take a shower," Nancy replied awkwardly, trying to avoid his intense gaze.
"Can't you take a shower later?" Charles asked again, furrowing his brows.
"Alright, no problem." After turning around, Nancy sat across him on the table.
Charles definitely looked a little tired today.
Even without saying anything, Nancy could already tell by just staring at him.
At the same time, Charles didn’t mind her cautious eyes and just ate silently without saying anything.
And because of this, a deafening silence fell on them, making the atmosphere embarrassing.
"Well, Charles, the dishes are not bad, aren't they?" Nancy was the first one to break the silence.
"Not bad." Still chewing, Charles replied calmly without looking at her.
"Well... Do you know what happened to Joseph?" With her most cautious voice, Nancy summoned all her courage to ask Charles about his cousin.
The news was so sensational and all over the internet and television that it was hard for Charles not to know.
"Well, this matter has nothing to do with us. Why do you suddenly ask?” For the first time, since they sat down at the dinner table, Charles raised his head to look at Nancy.
"Fannie...she...Uhm... She was wrong," uttered Nancy in a low voice.
"It has nothing to do with you or me. Why are you saying that to me?" Charles narrowed his eyes and arched his brows at her.
Nancy took a deep breath and thought that that matter also had nothing to do with her.
If Clark hadn't found her, she wouldn't care about Fannie at all.
But now, she was forced to do so.
"It's not that I want to care about it. It's my father who doesn't want to see Fannie suffer in the police station." Nancy paused, and after taking a deep breath, she continued, "So, he’s hoping you can tell Joseph to drop the case. My father wishes to have Fannie released sooner."
No matter how much Nancy tried to sound indifferent regarding the matter, Charles still didn't say anything.
"I know you will be in a dilemma, but Joseph only listens to you. Perhaps you can convince him," Nancy pleaded in a low voice.
"And how would you repay me?"
"What?" Stunned, Nancy widened eyes pierced at him with utmost confusion. She just bowed her head since she pleaded him for a favor, and now he was asking her this?
Slightly shy, she uttered, "I cooked for you today. What else do you want me to do?"
"Don't I cook more than you do?" Charles responded arrogantly, arching his brows again.
"Then, what do you want me to do?"
