"Mommy, can we come to see grandma tomorrow?" Nadia excitedly asked on the way home. Her eyes glinted a hint of expectation.
"Yeah." Seeing the anticipation in her daughter's eyes, Nancy couldn't help rubbing her head dotingly.
Perhaps it was a good day or Nadia's bright smile, but in whichever case, Nancy didn't sense any bad premonition. Everything was sailing smoothly, and she hoped it could last long.
Meanwhile, back in the Ning household...
Fannie burst into fiendish laughter while looking at the photo of Charles with Dorothy.
"Dad, look at your doting daughter. Her dream of marrying a rich man is finally shattered! How could she even dream of becoming a beautiful swan?"
"Fannie, I think it's time we get Jade's shares back. We wouldn't know what's gonna happen," Jill suggested, ignoring the bright mood of her daughter.
"Don't worry. Things haven't been cleared yet. We don't have to act rashly. Although Nancy is softhearted, she won't let you go if you mess with her. And if that happens, we're not gonna get anything at all." Although he stammered, Clark was still able to get his point across.
"Dad, until when are you going to defend her? You know the incident about Nadia. In the end she didn't do anything to me. Besides, Charles left her! She'll never amount to his childhood sweetheart," Fannie scorned, showing her phone to her father to prove her words.
"What should we do?" Amidst her daughter's rant, Jill was more concerned with the money they needed.
"That's easy. All we need to do is to let Nancy transfer the shares to dad. Once he gets it, we can handle everything from there." The triumphant look painted on Fannie's face matched her determined tone.
"You know we have been good to you for so many years, Clark. So you have to help us at this critical moment." Jill's voice was coated with arrogance as if she was asking for payback.
"What? You shouldn't do that. You know you have no rights over that share." Clark didn't want to add insult to the injury.
"What do you mean? Every day those shares stay with Nancy, it gets useless and useless! We must get our hands on it!" Fannie's voice almost rose to the roof, exhibiting the conviction and boldness in her.
Meanwhile, Clark could do nothing but sigh as he looked at his delusional child. It seemed like nothing could stop her from what she was planning.
After a while, she forced him to get in the car in the middle of the night.
Judging from the road they were traversing, he already had an idea where they were headed.
And true enough, not long after, they reached a sanatorium—the very same one where Jade was admitted to.
A sense of nostalgia, coupled with sadness and regret, filled Clark's thoughts.
At the same time, Jade was startled to see the very last person she was expecting. After all, Clark had never visited all these years, so this really came as a surprise.
'Why was he here now?' she wondered.
However, when she saw Jill and Fannie behind him, her confusion turned into utter horror.
"Don't look at us like that! We are old friends, and we know each other very well," Jill retorted with a defensive tone. Then, she went straight over and sat on a chair.
Crossing her legs, she looked at Jade with eyes filled with contempt.
"What are you doing here?" From her bed, Jade disdainfully eyed them one by one. She should warn the nurse not to let anyone in next time.
"What do you think we are here for? For your shares, of course! Nancy is a famous doctor now, and she's not interested in business. So I advise you to give your shares to us. We need it more than your daughter does!
Fannie surly uttered while crossing her arms across her chest. Her domineering stance only turned Jade agitated. "Clark, Clark..." the latter called with a fragile tone.
The woman was past her prime and weakened by her sickness. She could not even go against Jill, let alone her feisty daughter, who stood so arrogant before her.
"Say something, Clark." Noticing the hint of pity and sadness beaming in his eyes, Jill was quick to order the poor man.
"Jade, I know it's my fault, but since things have come to this, you'd better give up your shares and do as they say," Clark uttered helplessly, after which he bowed his head and stuck his eyes on the floor out of shame. At this point, he felt like a useless and futile man.
More than that, he knew Fannie very well. If Jade didn't agree and do otherwise, no one knew what her daughter would do. She was capable of anything, and he had seen it himself.
"No, no! There's no way I'd do that. Clark, I'm going to transfer my shares to Nancy." With pleading eyes, Jade stared at her former beau, hoping he would listen and help her.
