Chapter 290
Harper was supposed to work late tonight but felt inexplicably uneasy.
The first person she thought of was Taya, so she quickly called her-several times. But no one
answered.
She was a little anxious. After asking to leave early,
she immediately rushed to Taya’s house, calling
again when she got there.
As soon as Harper opened the door of Taya’s house, Taya finally picked up the phone.
Harper immediately breathed a sigh of relief. “Taya, what are you doing? Why didn’t you answer the phone? I’ve been so worried!”
Instead of Taya’s voice, an unfamiliar woman’s voice
came from the other end of the line. “Is this Taya’s
sister?”
Harper’s heart skipped a beat.
“Yes, this is. And who is that?”
“This is Dr. Stella Cobb. I saw you at Taya’s house.”
“Stella?”
Harper frowned, nervous and puzzled.
“Why are you answering Taya’s phone? Did something happen to her?”
“Nothing happened. Don’t be too nervous.”
Stella thought of the last time Taya gave her a wink,
so she didn’t dare tell Harper the truth.
But Harper knew something was wrong. “Don’t lie to
me. Every time Taya’s had a heart attack, I felt very
nervous. I can feel that something is wrong with her. My wolf always knows. Tell me quickly, where is she
now?”
Stella had to tell Harper the truth because she
couldn’t hide it anymore. She didn’t say anything
about Taya’s heart failure. She only said that Taya
was in a coma.
Harper almost collapsed.
Leaning against the doorframe, Harper trembled. “Stella… Stella, which hospital?”
Stella told her which hospital and calmed her down. “Harper, don’t worry. She’s in my hospital. I’ll keep an eye on her all the time. Why don’t you gather some things that will make her more comfortable? She needs to be hospitalized for some time.”
Stella’s calm voice brought some strength to Harper.
Harper steadied herself and thanked the doctor. Then she hung up the phone and staggered into Taya’s bedroom.
Harper packed a few clothes in a panic, took Taya’s
toiletries, and dr ve to the hospital.
Stella was doing a detailed examination of Taya.
When she saw Harper rushing in breathlessly, she quickly put down the stethoscope and looked at her.
Harper put down her things and hurried to Taya.
Her face changed when she saw Taya lying on the hospital bed with gauze wrapped around her head.
Harper raised her trembling hand and touched the wound on Taya’s forehead. Her eyes were full of
distress and confusion.
“Isn’t Taya in a coma from the heart attack? Why is
there a wound on her head?”
Stella felt so guilty that she didn’t dare to look straight at her.
“Taya offended Alpha Knight’s cousin while she was defending me, so she was accosted in the mall…”
Stella told Harper what had happened without
hiding anything.
Harper was stunned, and her eyes were full of
disbelief.
She really didn’t expect that to protect his cousin and
fiancée, Griffon would beat Taya.
Taya had been with him for five years. Even if he only
treated her as a tool, he wouldn’t be so cr uel to her,
would he?
“Harper, why she became like this has much to do with me. I’m so very sorry.”
Stella bowed to Harper solemnly and apologized,
which made Harper speechless.
Harper stared at the bandage on Taya’s forehead. After thinking for a while, she slowly looked at Stella,
who looked remorseful.
“It’s not your fault. The Knight pack is too arroa rrogant.gant.
For their Alpha to beat Taya like this…”
Harper clenched her fists, her claws coming out and deeply embedding in her palms, her eyes filling with the rage of her wolf and her wolf’s need to protect
Taya.
“Stella, do you know where his cousin lives?”
She couldn’t defeat Alpha Knight, but the woman?
She could handle the woman.
Tara was just an accomplice, so she could let her go
for now.
However, Griffon’s cousin was the mastermind.
Harper would make her pay. Dearly.
