The silence fell over the dining table like a heavy curtain.
Daniel paused with his spoon midway to his mouth.
It was the first time Brittany had been rushed to find a partner, and she was slightly out of her element. "Dad, all my focus is on my job right now. I don’t want to think about dating at the moment."
"Besides, I already have a son, so I must have a husband somewhere," Brittany added, her curiosity piqued about the rumored father of her child.
Yuri's expression changed subtly.
Daniel, relieved, resumed attacking his plate of mini cupcakes. "Mommy, Daddy is really handsome. If your future boyfriend isn't as good-looking as Daddy, I'll be the first to disapprove."
Handsome?
Brittany raised an eyebrow, intrigued. Her son was indeed very good-looking, a clear sign of good genes.
Thinking of handsome, an image flashed across Brittany's mind.
"So, just how handsome are we talking?"
Daniel thought for a moment. "If I had to rank, Grandpa would be first, Daddy second, and I'd be third!"
Yuri chuckled, amused. "You little clever thing!"
Daniel smiled broadly. "Grandpa, I'm just telling the truth."
"You sure have a way with words," Yuri teased.
Saskia tried to join the conversation but was swiftly pulled aside by Holden, who led her to the backyard. "Saskia, about Isaac, you can't bring him up anymore."
"Why won't you support me? I want to move to the finance department."
"You're not ready," Holden said matter-of-factly. "Saskia, I know what you're thinking, but some things are meant to be. The most important thing is to live a good life."
Saskia felt indignant. "Why does Brittany get to move to any department she wants?"
Holden didn't want to dampen her spirit, but Brittany's capability was evident to all.
"Saskia, if you really want Dad's approval, focus on excelling in your current role instead of feeling targeted by others. In fact, consider whether you've truly done your best in everything."
