"Bri, don't be pissed. He's just not good at spilling his guts. When you went missing, he was freaking out more than anyone else."
Grace took Brittany's hand. Even though she was a bit fed up with Isaac, she still vouched for him.
Her grandson was a good kid, but his words were sometimes hard to swallow.
No wonder he hadn't won Brittany over after all this time.
Brittany's eyelashes quivered slightly. She knew Isaac got mad because he was worried about her, but she still felt hurt.
"Gran, it hurts."
It really hurts.
She was scared when she was kidnapped. She was even more worried that Patrina would catch up when she escaped.
Grace's eyes reddened with worry, and it took her a while to soothe Brittany and tuck her into sleep.
Grace walked out of the hospital room. Isaac was on the phone with his back to her.
Who knows what the person on the other end of the line said? Isaac seemed a bit ticked off. "Got it. Keep digging."
After hanging up the phone, Isaac turned around.
Grace was seriously peeved at him: "Bri is the victim here; how could you blow up at her? Did you even think about how she feels?"
"I know I messed up. I'll apologize to her."
Only then was Grace satisfied. Thinking about the kidnapping, she snorted: "The Dustin family keeps messing with Bri. You better sort this out, or I'll step in myself."
Isaac was somewhat surprised. Grace had retired years ago and rarely intervened.
But for Brittany, she was willing to make an exception. This proved how much she liked Brittany.
Isaac was torn. He and Brittany were in a sham marriage. Could his grandma accept it if they divorced later?
Isaac drove Grace back to her apartment, then he made some chicken soup himself, grabbed some clothes for Brittany, and brought them to the hospital.
Brittany was lying on the bed, sleeping soundly.
Isaac walked quietly to the bed and sat down. His gaze fell on her face. Her face was covered in small wounds, making her look a bit disheveled.
He felt a rare pang of guilt. He reached out to touch her cheek.
Just as his hand was about to touch her, Brittany opened her eyes. Their eyes met, and it was a bit awkward.
Isaac awkwardly pulled back his hand and cleared his throat: "Have some chicken soup."
