After leaving the press conference, Brittany felt a weight lifted off her. She squatted down and looked at Donna Dustin, and asked, "Granny, how come you're loaded?"
Donna Dustin was filthy rich.
"I made a lot of investments when I was young, something Robert doesn't know about."
Donna Dustin sighed, "Those shares were left to you by Julie. I was just holding onto them for you."
Before Julie passed away, she had already hinted that Robert wouldn't treat Brittany well. Those shares were her secret stash. Even Robert didn't know who actually owned them. They were kept under the care of Donna Dustin.
They were meant to be kept secret unless it was absolutely necessary.
Donna used to think Julie was too pessimistic. But over the years, Robert's actions proved Julie's suspicions right.
From the start to the end, Julie knew Robert's true colors.
He was a selfish man, always caring only about his own interests. To him, family ties were insignificant.
Only then did Brittany realize her mom had prepared a backup plan for her before she passed away.
"Bri."
Donna Dustin reached out and covered Brittany's hand, "I'm really tired; granny doesn't want to stay in the hospital anymore. I want to enjoy what's left of my time."
That was her only wish now.
Donna Dustin had accepted it. She'd rather enjoy the present than spend her days in a hospital in a daze.
Seeing Donna Dustin, who had been noticeably thinner due to her illness, Brittany felt an unbearable heartache. She knew Donna Dustin had been having a tough time.
Donna Dustin had been sent to the emergency room several times, teetering on the brink of death.
It was now the end of the line for her.
She swallowed her dry throat. She was so heartbroken she couldn't say anything. After a while, her eyes welled up with tears, "Do you want to go back to the countryside or stay in Imperial City?"
"Let's go back to the countryside."
"All right, come back to the hospital with me now. Tomorrow morning, we'll go home."
Brittany decided to follow Donna Dustin's wish. Rather than spending every day in agony and despair in the hospital, letting her live the life she wanted would be better.
Donna Dustin nodded in satisfaction.
Back at the hospital, Dr. Laurs heard about Brittany's decision and showed his support.
