Brittany walked into VelvetGlow Jewellery with her latest designs under her arm. After Frank gave them a once-over, he gave her a nod and sent her on her way. Looked like he was pretty chuffed with her work.
Later, back at her desk, Brittany fired up her computer and started browsing an apartment rental website. Isaac’s two-bedroom apartment was a bit rough around the edges but it was located on the fringes of the prime district, so it wasn’t exactly a steal.
She had her eyes on a studio apartment but the prices skyrocketed once you got anywhere near the city center. She eventually settled on a property close to VelvetGlow Jewellery. It was a bit dated but it was conveniently located and the décor was right up her street.
Once she made up her mind, Brittany set up an apartment viewing for Hannah after work.
One of Brittany colleagues spotted her scrolling through the rental site and asked, surprised, "Brittany, you're moving out?"
Brittany replied, "Yep."
"That's a decent block."
The colleague who spoke was always friendly with Brittany, keeping her mouth shut when everyone else was busy brown-nosing Sydney.
She kept a low profile but Brittany suspected she came from money, hence why she never sucked up to Sydney.
Upon hearing that Brittany was moving, Sydney's first thought was – has Brittany finally been kicked out?
Isaac wasn’t a mug, he couldn't possibly marry a copycat!
Sydney strutted into Frank's office and when she came out, she shot Brittany a smug glance.
After lunch, Brittany was called into Frank’s office.
“The client loved your designs and has doubled the commission.” Frank poured her a cup of tea, his demeanor mellow. “Just like last time, Sydney will be credited for the work.”
Brittany couldn’t believe her ears. “You said last time was the last time, that it wouldn’t happen again!”
The colleagues outside the office, hearing the commotion, threw curious glances their way.
Frank slammed his hand on the table. “Brittany, I’m the Deputy Director, and I call the shots here. Don’t bite the hand that feeds you!”
Even if Brittany had talent, he would always give Sydney the credit, what could Brittany do?
