Mr. Salter had arranged a paid leave for her. The only catch was that she had to stick around in the hospital with Brittany. What a gig! However, she had to keep this from Brittany.

"I'm on vacation," Hannah casually mentioned. "Of course, you're more important than work."

Tanya Chester walked in with a thermos, and seeing Hannah glued to a TV show and Brittany was sitting on the bed alone, she stepped forward and scolded her daughter. "Hannah, what on earth are you doing instead of taking care of Brittany?"

"Auntie, I'm okay," Brittany jumped in. "Hannah's been working hard. I told her to rest for a bit."

Hearing this, Tanya's heart softened. She sat by the bed and opened the thermos. "Here, have some soup. It'll help you get back on your feet quicker."

She had brought homemade chicken soup. The aroma filled the room as she poured it out.

"Mom, I want some too."

There was enough soup for both, so Tanya gestured for Hannah to come over. "Come on then."

"Mom, you're the best."

Tanya playfully tapped her nose. "Look at you. Brittany's already hitched, and you're still acting like a child!"

After handing the soup to Brittany, she reminded her, "Take your time and have more soup. Your hand's injured, and you took a hit to the head. You need to replenish."

"Thank you."

Brittany knew Tanya was looking out for her, so she just went with the flow.

Hannah was savouring the soup from her bowl. Tanya cleaned up the room and again told Brittany, "Brittany, you owe that boy a big thank you for keeping you safe."

"Mom, he has a name."

Hannah felt a little jolt hearing her mom call Mr. Salter 'boy'. If Mr. Salter listened to that, he'd probably flip.

Tanya wanted to say something but got a call from Blake saying they had guests at home. She had to cut her visit short.

Once she left, Brittany shared half of her soup with Hannah. "Your mom's soup is getting better every time. Have more."

Hannah pouted and teased, "I feel like my mom's growing fonder of you. Ever thought about joining the Chester clan?"
