Landon leaned in, capturing Charles’ lips, and Charles was a mix of frustration and urgency. But Landon was relentless, stirring up a storm within Charles until Charles bit down on his tongue in retaliation.
Landon winced in pain.
Charles shoved Landon away, tossing a credit card at him. "If you breathe a word about today, Landon, you're dead meat!"
Having been outed, Charles didn't dare linger, heading straight back to Craneville that very night.
...
By the time Isaac got back to Bay Community, it was well past midnight.
The new branch office had just been completed, and his to-do list was endless. He'd been running around all day, schmoozing at evening functions, and reluctantly downing a few drinks.
He stepped out of his car, telling Nathan to head home early. "Take the day off tomorrow."
"Will do."
Isaac slipped through the door quietly, changing shoes and shedding his suit jacket before hurrying upstairs.
Brittany was already asleep, but the master bedroom was bathed in the soft glow of a nightlight, casting a gauzy veil over the space.
Isaac, slightly inebriated, moved to the bedside and crouched down, pulling Brittany into his embrace.
Brittany woke to the smell of alcohol. "You're back."
"Yeah, sorry if I woke you."
Their foreheads touched, and Isaac's lips found hers, lingering there.
After a moment, he pulled back, breathless. "What'd you have for dinner?"
"I took Daniel out, and ran into Dominic."
"Right."
Now somewhat clearer-headed, Isaac stripped off his shirt and staggered into the bathroom.
Woken by the commotion, Brittany went downstairs to brew a hangover cure, bringing it up just as Isaac emerged from the shower.
"Drink this; it'll help."
Isaac downed the remedy in one go.
"I'm off tomorrow; we can spend the day together."
