Brittany let out a resigned sigh and made her way over, reaching out to take the wine glass from Charles’s hand. "Enough drinking already."

Charles squinted at her. "You made it. You've really done me in this time!"

Confused, Brittany grabbed a glass and poured herself a half measure of wine. "Weren't you in Imperial City?"

"Don't even start. I couldn't stomach that place any longer." Charles looked pale as a ghost. "Stay clear of that Landon, will ya?"

Brittany propped her chin on her hand. "Is there something between you and Landon that I don't know about?"

It was clear Charles had fled back home.

Charles's eyes widened dramatically. "What... what nonsense are you spouting? I simply can't stand pretentious prigs."

Landon was a beast, having discovered her true identity, he nearly did her in. Had she not been quick on her feet, she would've been ruined.

"Elijah Ulbricht is also in Craneville," Charles said. "I also checked with William, and he confirmed that Elijah was the one who saved you back then."
