In Chapter 107 of The Bond Between Us novel, the narrative takes a riveting turn, plunging readers deeper into the intricacies of Anastasia and Herman's evolving relationship. As the couple grapples with the shocking revelation of their shared past, the town of Riverdale becomes a backdrop for both confrontations and moments of quiet introspection.
Chapter 107 opens with Anastasia attempting to piece together the fragments of her forgotten memories, haunted by the striking resemblance of their daughter to a past she never knew she had. The quaint charm of Riverdale transforms into a landscape of uncertainty as Herman, determined to unearth the truth, confronts Anastasia with questions that demand answers.
A few minutes later, Anastasia pulled over by the side of the road. Joey was nowhere in sight.
"You can get out now," Anastasia told Gianna.
Instead of getting out, Gianna dug out a pack of cigarettes from her bag, lit one up, rolled down the window, and started puffing away in her own world.
It was pretty clear to Anastasia that Gianna was in a bad mood, so she opted to keep her mouth shut.
After what felt like an eternity of silence, Gianna suddenly asked, "Why aren't you saying anything?"
Anastasia glanced at her and said, "I don't feel like getting screamed at."
Basically, anything Anastasia said at this point would have just pissed Gianna off, so she chose to remain silent.
Gianna flicked her cigarette ash and said, "There's a coffee shop over there. I'll buy you a coffee."
Anastasia quickly replied, "No, thanks."
Gianna: "I bet you're really enjoying this, aren't you? My life's a mess right now. I've always had it better than you. My family could afford to buy pianos worth tens of thousands of dollars, while you struggled to even go to school. I always had fancy cars and luxury goods, while you had to scrape by selling everyday items on the streets. I married a great guy,"
But Gianna's voice trailed off there.
With Joey's infidelity, it didn't feel right to continue this line of comparison.
Anastasia glanced at her and said, "I've never compared myself to you. Yes, my family isn't as well-off as yours, but why should I compare myself to you? Why should I care about how well you're doing? Everyone has their own life. Don't think too highly of yourself."
Gianna was resentful. "I don't believe that you're not jealous of me."
Anastasia was speechless and didn't feel like arguing with Gianna. "Yeah, yeah, you're right. I'm jealous of your wealth, I'm jealous of your husband being the director of a hospital, and I'm jealous that your husband's mistress is pregnant with their second child. Happy?"
"Anastasia." Gianna called her name, her face turning pale with anger.
