"No way."
"Ha, look who's being bossy." Craig took a final drag of his cigarette, dropped it to the ground, and stamped it out. "You should be spending your time comforting your sister instead of wasting mine. I've got money to make."
Another big rig pulled up behind him.
A middle-aged man climbed down and called out, "Craig! You coming or what?"
"Yeah! You guys go ahead and start unloading. I'll be right there."
"Got it."
The man nodded and drove off.
Craig turned back to Miles, raising an eyebrow, "See? I'm just a truck driver. What kind of life do you think your sister would have with me?"
"She likes you."
"Since when does liking put food on the table?" He scoffed, clearly disdainful of the idea of love feeding anyone. "Mr. Lopez, do you really want your sister living a life on the road, scraping by on scraps?"
Miles stared at him, his voice heavy, "If you're willing, I could—"
"I'm not interested." Craig cut him off. "I can handle any hardship, but I won't live off someone else's charity."
With that, he turned to climb back into his truck.
Aurora, tears rimming her eyes, ran up and grabbed Craig's shirt. "Are you really breaking up with me?"
Clearly, his posture stiffened.
But he didn't turn around, not even to spare Aurora a glance.
"Yeah, we're done. I made it clear in my text." Craig clenched his jaw, his voice cold, "Stop chasing after me."
Aurora, drained from the ordeal, seemed to lose strength in her grip.
