The CEO's Hidden Love: Midnight Temptations and Deep Desires novel Chapter 1603

Long moments after the call ended, and even after Felicity emerged from the bathroom, Miles was still lost in thought.

"What did my mom say?"

Drying her hair, she was wrapped in his navy bathrobe, which seemed almost too large for her, engulfing her entirely.

"Aunt Karen was... asking why you called her, about looking for an obstetrician."

Silence fell heavily between them.

Felicity tensed at his words, a reaction Miles interpreted almost as a confirmation of his suspicions.

He approached her, his dark eyes filled with earnestness and hope, "Felicity... are you... are you pregnant?"

Silence again.

Miles gently took her wrist, asking softly, "Are you?"

For a few seconds, her mind went blank before she shook her head, "No."

It wasn't that she wasn't pregnant now; she believed she could never be pregnant.

"Really?" Disappointment flickered across Miles' face.

"Really, there's no pregnancy."

"Then why suddenly ask about an obstetrician?" He couldn't let it go, his heart clinging to a sliver of hope.

This time, Felicity didn't respond. She silently turned to get dressed and then faced him again.

"Come with me."

"Okay."

Without another word, she led him to a pharmacy where they bought a pregnancy test, then back to their hotel room to take it in his presence.

One line.

Not pregnant.

Seeing the disappointment in his eyes, Felicity clenched her fists, her heart aching as if squeezed tight.

"I'm sorry, Langston, I really am not pregnant."

"Why are you apologizing?" Miles wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close, "It's okay. We'll just keep trying."

He knew that having a child was a matter of fate.

But he was unaware of how Felicity was feeling at that moment.

Held in his embrace, after a while, she asked with a hoarse voice, "Langston, what if... I mean, what if I can never have children?"

"Then we won't," he answered quickly, without a moment's hesitation. "Just the two of us is also good."

"But you love kids."

"No, I love the idea of our kids."

All his dreams of the future, of a family of three or four, were with her.

The mother of his future children was Felicity.

She pressed her lips together, remaining silent as he gently stroked her hair, over and over.

"Don't overthink it. It was my mistake to ask those questions."

"You're not wrong." She lowered her gaze, took a deep breath to steady the sourness in her eyes, "Langston, I'm tired, let's go to sleep?"

"Okay."

Miles lifted her into bed and then dimmed the lights to a soft glow.

He wrapped an arm around her from behind, pulling Felicity close.

"Felicity, in this life, the only person who gets to hold you like this is me, okay?"

She didn't respond, and Miles took her silence for sleep.

His lips curved into a soft smile, his face relaxed in contentment.

He breathed in deeply, filled with her scent, before finally closing his eyes in satisfaction.

Not long after, steady breathing sounds came from behind him.

But the one who was supposed to fall asleep first suddenly opened her eyes...

"Langston... you're so wonderful, how can I allow you to give up having children for me..."

She couldn't be so selfish, even if she wanted to.

"After this month, forget about me, hate me if you must, but... please stop loving me."
