The CEO's Hidden Love: Midnight Temptations and Deep Desires novel Chapter 70

As soon as he left, Heather, despite her frail condition, managed to squeeze out a polite smile. "Sorry, Everett. I'm afraid I'll have to postpone a few contracts I'm working on! But don't worry, I'll be back on track soon. Jeffrey promised to bring my laptop to the hospital!"

Everett admired her work ethic, but as president, he had to discourage such kind of reckless behavior.

"You need to rest. The legal department doesn't solely depend on you. I'll get Kevin and Dorothy to pick up the slack."

"No!"

Heather's voice rose at the mention of Dorothy's name. She realized her outburst was inappropriate, "Sorry. I just don't like others getting involved in my work. It's not personal! Besides, I have nothing to do in the hospital. Working might actually be fun."

"Your health comes first."

"I'm really fine! By the way, Everett, because of my sudden surgery, I can't fly out to see Amanda this week. She called me just now, and she's heard about it. So she's planning to come back to the country."

Everett’s mother was coming back?

His eyebrows furrowed, "She's not fit for long flights."

"I told her the same, but she insists on coming to see me, worried that I won't have anyone to take care of me after the surgery."

"We can hire more nurses for you. She won't be able to take care of you even if she comes."

"Yeah, I told her the same."

He had a headache coming on, "I'll talk her out of it."

"Everett." Heather started suddenly, "Are you against Amanda coming back because of her health, or because of Dorothy?"

Caught off guard, Everett just gave her a glance, not responding.

"You know Amanda won't like Dorothy. I suggest you don't tell her yet." Heather switched back to her friendly tone, "Otherwise, all the previous treatment would be wasted, and it could even be worse."

"I'll consider it carefully."
