Leopold was at a loss for words.
"Can we stick to Fredric's affairs and not drag me into it every time? I'm not his fall guy."
Aurelia rolled her eyes at him, saying, "Just a heads-up, you know, failing to plan is planning to fail."
He frowned slightly, "Am I that unreliable in your eyes? Do I give you no sense of security?"
She shot back, "We've both been through two divorces each. How can I get a sense of security?"
Leopold broke out in a cold sweat, quickly changing the subject to avoid digging up the past.
"I'll send over the proposed amendments to the family charter to the council tomorrow."
She blinked in surprise, "That soon?"
He playfully nudged her nose, "If changes need to be made, I see no reason to drag our feet. I like to cut to the chase to save my dear wife from worrying."
Aurelia's expression turned stern as she patted his shoulder, "Reform always faces resistance. The traditionalists will push back hard. We need to brace ourselves."
Leopold smiled, "As long as it makes my wife happy, I'll push through the naysayers and get those amendments passed."
"I'll hold you to that," Aurelia chuckled, "I already told Beverley and the girls it was my idea to update the charter, so you don't get in a bind with the older generation."
His smile turned indulgent, "Always thinking of me, aren't you?"
She gave a mischievous wink, "We're in this together now, so of course I've got your back."
Meanwhile, Sheryl was downing drinks to vent her frustration.
