Blinking her wide eyes, Nina quickly fired another shot, "Dad's not busy at all, he's always off with some ladies, having a ball. Mira and I barely see him enough times in a month to count on one hand. I'm jealous of Kane and William. Uncle Arnold and Uncle Leopold are home every night, and they're the best with them."
She pouted her lips, her expression one of utter dejection, "Lady Jelena, if you ever marry my dad, you'll end up just like my mom, alone in the house all day, holding the fort in a big empty mansion, and becoming the resentful trophy wife he grew tired of."
Fredric seemed to be insulted, nearly passing out from the shock.
Was this some kind of roast session?
He had already been turned down by Jelena, who worried he wouldn't make a good husband and felt insecure about their future. And here was his little girl, twisting the knife even further. Was she trying to finish off her father?
"Jelena, don't listen to Nina's nonsense. She's just been led astray by her mom. I promise I’ll be a great husband and a great dad from now on."
Jelena wasn't buying it, not for a second. She knew his track record.
She flipped her hair over her shoulder, giving a seductive smile, "It's okay, no need to explain. We're just friends right now, anyway."
Fredric was frustrated beyond belief. Their relationship suddenly felt as distant as the moon.
They had already been intimate. Didn’t that count for something?
"I was just young and foolish before, loved to play around. But I've grown up, and now, all I want is to settle down and enjoy the joys of family life."
Immediately, Nina challenged him, "Then why did you divorce Mom, making Mira and I children of a broken home?"
Fredric shot her a look, "I never planned on marrying your mom. It was because of you two that I was forced into it. Also for you and Mira, I stayed. Now that you're grown, I need to think about my happiness."
