Elara patted her own shoulder, rising to her feet.
Elara thought, "A woman with no backbone, no courage, and an innocent demeanor like this was no match for Elowen. Crushing her would be easier than stepping on an ant."
Elara guessed that she was probably hoping to latch onto her daughter's coattails, hoping for some protection, and maybe even acting as a sidekick for her daughter.
After she left, Aurelia exhaled a sigh of relief.
Jessica was also keeping a close eye on the situation. She knew well enough that Aurelia was carrying her precious grandchild and couldn't afford any mishaps.
From the look on Elara's face, she hadn't noticed anything. This girl wasn't as foolish as she appeared.
Sipping her orange juice, Aurelia saw Arnold approach.
He was like a ray of sunlight in the darkness, causing her dim eyes to light up slightly.
"Nice to meet you, Mr. Arnold."
She blurted out a formal greeting, causing Arnold to pause, "Isn't your greeting a bit too official?"
Flustered, Aurelia laughed, "The guests today are either high-ranking executives or major shareholders. As the one with the lowest position, wouldn't it be inappropriate if I was too casual with you?"
A teasing smile appeared on Arnold's face, "Are you afraid of rumors spreading about us?"
Aurelia covered her mouth, whispering, "Many people already think we're dating. I didn't bother to explain because for the gossipmongers, an explanation is just a cover-up. Let them think what they want. Innocence fears no accusation."
Arnold laughed, settling down on the couch next to her. "Neither do I care for explanations. Other people's opinions aren't important. Why should we worry?"
Aurelia bit into a slice of orange, lowered her head, and sighed softly, "I was hoping to get to know the division presidents of the corporation and secure more sales resources. I didn't expect to be sitting here alone."
"Don't be discouraged. A simple greeting at a banquet won't make much of a difference. As long as the 'Destiny' series sells well at the headquarters, there's no reason for the other divisions not to push sales. Who doesn't want to be the annual sales champion?" Arnold comforted.
Aurelia forced a smile, "You're right."
