"Word has it you're quite popular with the guys at the office, huh?"
His tone was chilling, sending a shiver down Aurelia's spine as if the sun shining on her skin had suddenly turned cold.
She was certain he wasn't paying her a compliment. Everything about his tone and manner suggested sarcasm.
"I get along with the ladies too, you know. Except for a few in our department."
Interpersonal relationships at work were delicate. As long as there were no conflicts of interest or personality clashes, a superficial harmony could be maintained. But true friendships were few.
Leopold twisted open a bottle of spring water, taking a sip to cool his temper.
"Should I be praising you for being a smooth operator then?"
That was definitely not a compliment!
Aurelia pulled a face, giving a sheepish grin, "I'm just a bit sociable, not a smooth operator. I'm naive and don't play mind games."
Yeah, right!
A hint of mockery appeared on Leopold's face. She was full of tricks, and she had nothing to do with the word "innocent".
"Remember, there's a boundary between men and women. Don't be too casual with male colleagues to avoid unnecessary criticism."
Aurelia was taken aback.
He was born privileged, so he could afford to act aloof and indifferent to everyone.
But she couldn't.
She had no money or connections, everything she had was earned through hard work. Networking, connections, resources, all required her full effort to establish, maintain, and acquire.
Moreover, she had never behaved inappropriately!
"I haven't done anything inappropriate. It's just normal communication and courtesy among colleagues. You're so used to being worshipped from your high pedestal, you wouldn't understand how us normal folks socialize. If we act too prim, we'll be ostracized and have no friends."
A frown creased Leopold's handsome face.
He couldn't understand why he felt irritated whenever he saw her laughing and chatting with other men.
She had never shown such joy in front of him.
"You're not an average person anymore."
