Aurelia teased, "If you follow him like this, aren't you afraid of being caught by paparazzi and them saying he's mamma's boy?"
"Let them say what they want, can't a mother care for her son?"
Jolin replied, throwing the diced chicken into the pot, adding water, and starting to simmer the soup.
She then took steak from the refrigerator, and sliced it while saying, "I don't have to worry about you with Arno and Mr. Leopold by your side. Both of them are nice men. I'd be happy no matter who you marry"
Aurelia choked at her words. Her mother misunderstood her relationship with Arno, but now even her big boss had fallen under suspicion. Where did she get the idea that Leopold had feelings for her?
"Mom, you're overthinking it! Mr. Leopold is my boss, and there's absolutely nothing between us!"
Jolin gave her a knowing smile, "My dear, I have sharp eyes. I can tell if he is interested in you or not. I thought he might see you as a further sister-in-law initially, but from what he said, I understand now. He has feelings for you."
Aurelia was speechless.
Her mother indeed had a sharp eye.
But her boss wasn't interested in her; it was just his possessiveness acting up, unwilling to let go of something, even if he didn't want it.
"Mom, you've completely misunderstood. Mr. Leopold has a fiancee."
Jolin paused in her slicing, her expression growing a bit more serious, "I've heard from Avery that the situation is indeed complicated. And Arno might be a better match. With his mother gone, you won't have to deal with daughter-in-law's conflicts. You two could lead a peaceful life."
Jolin sliced pieces of steak and continued, "You can start by being friends with Arno. Take it slow, no need to rush. With men, you have to keep them curious, make them itch continuously, and not give in too easily. Otherwise, they won't cherish you. You need to learn how to maintain the right balance, leaving room for both advance and retreat. That's the only way to firmly hold him."
Aurelia sighed, feeling overwhelmed, "Mom, I can handle my own affairs. Maybe you should focus more on Avery."
One of a younger brother's roles was to help shift the focus.
As Aurelia wished, Jolin turned her attention to her son, "When Avery gets a wife, she'll have to pass my scrutiny. A single glance from my sharp eyes will reveal if she's suitable or not. And if she's not, it'll be an immediate breakup. Just like that girl Bonnie, I knew she was unreliable, and it turned out I was right."
