William's reliance on Arnold was emotional, not blood-related. Even if he knew the truth, he would still choose Arnold.
"Sweetie, Uncle Leopold isn't like other stepdads, and he's your real uncle. You two are blood-related, so he'll always be good to you."
"But what if my stepmom doesn't like me? What if she has a baby and drives me away?"
The more William thought about it, the sadder he became, tears streaming down his face.
Kane walked over, reaching out to clean his tears and saying, "William, don't cry. If she bullies you, I'll help drive her away."
"Really?"
"Yep." Kane patted his chest, like an adult, "I'm your big brother, and I'll protect you."
William extended his finger and said, "Pinky swear?"
Kane hooked his finger, "Pinky swear!"
"Pinky promises are forever!"
Aurelia and Leopold exchanged a glance. As a kid, William needed other kids to cheer him up. Kane was very sensible. With him around, they believed William would slowly adapt to the changes.
After dinner, they went to the Grand Theater.
The children's play was spectacular, and both William and Kane were thrilled.
Later, Leopold dropped off Aurelia and William at the Royal Emerald Resort Condominiums.
As soon as they got out of the car, they ran into Arnold.
"Daddy!" William ran over and jumped into his arms.
Arnold picked him up, kissing his small face, "Did you have fun tonight?"
William hugged his neck, rubbing his masked face against Arnold's, "It was okay, but I still prefer it when you take me to see children's plays."
