The chill in Megan's heart ran bone-deep.
The Leopold she knew was capable of ruthless deeds.
She needed to find a way to sway his affections from Aurelia and onto her. That was the only long-term solution.
"Leopold, I'll make you see that I am the perfect wife for you."
Leopold didn't want to spare her a second glance. "I’ll have a meeting soon. You can leave if there’s nothing important.."
Megan bit her lip. "This month, I... I'm not pregnant."
She had taken a pregnancy test, and it was negative.
A cold and sinister glint flashed in Leopold's eyes. "You think you can bear my child that easily?"
Megan threatened, "Only when I have a child can I rest assured and give you the antibiotics."
Leopold scoffed, a chilling aura radiating from him. "You should be well aware of something. If Aurelia dies, you won't live another day."
A spasmodic twitch appeared at the corner of Megan's mouth. "Then how can I conceive your child?"
She needed a child for protection. Even if the child was a bastard, he would be legitimized sooner or later.
Leopold coldly stared at her, each word falling like a hammer. "You'll have the right only when Aurelia receives the sixth injection of antibiotics. Or you can give me the first four antibiotics to earn that right in advance."
Without hesitation, Megan chose the latter. After all, without the sixth antibiotic, Aurelia would still die.
A crafty smile tugged at the corners of Leopold's mouth. He had anticipated Megan choosing the latter.
With the four antibiotics, Aurelia would be safe for the following four months.
