"Would you remarry Leopold if he divorces Megan?" Evelyn questioned her, her gaze not wavering, attentively watching her shifting expressions.
A forlorn smile crept onto Aurelia’s face as she said, "This isn't the first time he's left me, first for you, now for Megan. If he truly cared for me, would he do this?"
Evelyn's eyes softened with sympathy, "You truly are pitiful."
Suddenly, she found peace, realizing that Aurelia's predicament was far worse than hers. Had Elowen not spilled the beans about her affair, Leopold would never have left her.
Aurelia took a sip of her juice, lowering her voice, "What I'm doing now has nothing to do with Leopold. I'm merely making Megan pay her due. Do you know why I fell sick suddenly?"
"Why?" Evelyn arched an eyebrow in curiosity.
"Megan poisoned me, aiming to kill me and take my place. She seduced Leopold while I was in the ICU." She looked worried, "You need to be careful too, only two daughters remain in the Alcott family. Megan was the heir, and after her disappearance, you took over. She will definitely want her position back. Do you think she'll be nice to you then?"
Evelyn's lips trembled, Aurelia’s words sending a chill down her spine.
Megan had always been ruthless towards her, never treating her as a sister but as a competitor. To reclaim her position as the heir, Megan would stoop to any level.
This wasn't about stealing a man anymore, but a fight for life and interests.
She had to win.
"We're tied to the same fate now. If Megan secures her position in the Stirling family, your son will be her first target. We have to join forces and bring her down, or none of us will see better days."
In this world, there were no permanent friends or enemies, only permanent interests.
The enemy of an enemy was a friend.
Aurelia nodded in agreement, "If you ever run into trouble, reach out to me immediately. We'll figure something out together."
