Aurelia let out a sneer and thought, “Gosh! The child isn’t born yet, and Megan’s already chomped at the bit to plant him on the throne. She is indeed ambitious.”
“The heir of the Stirling family must have a squeaky-clean background,” Aurelia continued, a smirk curling her lips. “As the mother, you've barely cleaned up your own mess. Your checkered past is enough to disqualify him from succession. If you cared about your child, you’d think twice about your actions.”
The jab hit Megan where it hurt most. Was she denied entry into the Stirling family and not recognized as the family matriarch because of her ties to the AK Group? But without the support of the AK Group, how could she secure her position and fight against Aurelia and the other vixens for power? Only with the help of the AK Group could her son ascend to the throne without a hitch.
“I'm the matriarch of the Stirling family now, and my child's claim to the inheritance is legitimate. Leopold loves me. He knows what I've gone through was against my will and has long forgiven me. I hope your child steps aside smartly, as the Stirling family would hate to see sibling rivalry.”
William snorted. “Don’t sweat it, Ma’am. Kane isn’t interested in competing with his sister.”
“It’s a brother, not a sister!” Megan fumed.
William glanced at her belly. “We’ll see when the baby’s born.”
He was sure it was a girl. A child’s intuition is often dead on.
After dinner, Leopold arrived. Megan quickly got to her feet and latched onto his arm. “Honey, have you had dinner?”
Leopold gently removed her hand, his gaze drifting to Aurelia. “Any plans for the evening?”
William piped up, “Uncle Leopold, we’re thinking of hiking up to Sweetland Park at the mountain peak to build a candy house.”
“Sounds good. Let’s go hiking then,” Leopold said with a gentle smile.
A flash of anger sparked in Megan’s eyes. Was this brat doing it on purpose?
“Honey, I can’t go hiking; I’m pregnant.”
“Then you can stay in your room and wait for us,” Leopold replied indifferently.
Megan’s frustration was like a relentless river. She had to stay by his side to shadow him closely, not giving Aurelia any opportunity.
