Megan wriggled into her sleeping bag, curling up as if she were still shaking off a recent scare.
Leopold signaled for his bodyguard to go outside.
"Where did you get that knife?" he asked.
"I was afraid someone from the AK Group was tailing me and might be out to get me, so I carried a pocketknife for protection," Megan stammered.
Leopold's piercing eyes shimmered in the dim light of Twilight Club, sharp and unyielding.
"I've provided you with a personal bodyguard for your protection. What else is there to fear? You know you sleepwalk, and yet you carry a knife at night. Isn't that more dangerous?"
Megan pouted. "I haven't sleepwalked for days. I thought the curse was gone, but now it seems worse." She sat up abruptly, clutching his sleeve. "Leopold, I'm so scared. You must save me and the baby."
His gaze hardened, icy and stern. "You should count yourself lucky that Aurelia is unharmed. Whether your sleepwalking is real or fake, I'll not let it slide. Remember, if Aurelia gets hurt because of you, I'll see to it that you lose that child, for you do not deserve to be a mother."
A nerve twitched on Megan's face, sending chills down her spine.
"How could it be an act? The AK Group is punishing me by placing a curse on me. My head's still spinning. I feel terrible."
Leopold's expression was chilling, exuding a deadly aura.
"Always bear in mind that your life is tied to Aurelia's. If anything happens to her, you won't live another second. That thing inside you can't be your talisman. I have no qualms about taking two lives in one." After the warning, he turned and left.
Megan clenched her fists inside her sleeping bag. She wanted to flay Aurelia alive and turn her to ashes so she'd never again compete for the title of Mrs. Stirling.
Aurelia entered the tent, glancing at her son, who appeared to be sleeping soundly, undisturbed by the commotion outside. She kissed his little cheek and lay down to rest.
William's eyes snapped open in the darkness, a flicker of rage passing through them. That wicked woman Megan dared to bully his mom. He'd make her suffer!
As dawn began to break the following day, everyone got up to await the sunrise.
