William slapped his shoulder, a gesture of camaraderie, "No worries, Skyler. Just stick with me and steer clear of her, you'll be fine."
Aurelia glanced at Leopold. "Your aunt is coming along?"
Leopold nodded slightly. "Yeah, she and her assistant are in another car. We'll meet them at the highway junction."
"Can she handle the trip?" Aurelia asked.
Leopold's voice dropped a bit. "She's started on this new targeted medication. Her condition's improved a lot. So, she's holding up pretty well, not as bad as we thought."
"That's a relief," Aurelia shrugged, keeping her skepticism about Tanya's illness to herself with Skyler in the car. She'd save her doubts for a private moment.
On the way, William and Skyler were engrossed in a game of Stratego, and soon Skyler was too caught up in the fun to remember his troubles.
After an hour of highway and winding mountain roads, they arrived at Valley Farmstead.
Stepping out of the car, Aurelia led her son and casually greeted Tanya with a nod.
Tanya, all smiles, turned to William. "So you're William? Skyler talks about you all the time."
"I'm best buds with Skyler," William said in his childlike tone.
"Aren't you just adorable? I'd love to have a grandson as cute as you," Tanya chuckled.
Aurelia eyed her secretly. Tanya didn't look like the mastermind behind a shadowy organization but seemed more like a genial lady of high society.
If it weren't for Skyler piecing together her connection to the AK Group, Aurelia would have doubted they had the right person. Tanya must be a master of disguise. Otherwise, the Henniger family would have noticed something amiss.
As they walked into the farmstead, they were greeted by a field of purple lavender, reminiscent of the beauty Aurelia had once seen in Provence.
Skyler and William, hand in hand, dashed into the lavender fields.
Tanya gave Sierra a knowing look, and she scampered after the boys.
