“Lana, are you seriously teaming up with Aurelia to take me down?” Megan sneered, her voice dripping with disdain.
Rolling her eyes, Lana shot back, “Even if we are, what can you do about it? Everyone knows that Aurelia is way better than you. We all want her to be Leopold's wife again.”
Fuming, Megan spat out, “In your dreams, sweetheart. The title of Mrs. Stirling is mine now and forever.”
With a cold laugh, Lana retorted, “You haven’t even secured your spot yet. You have to wait until Kane turns 18 before you can officially claim it. And who said anything about marriages being set in stone? If Leopold wants a divorce, he can have it anytime, without even giving you a heads-up. Don’t think he doesn’t know about your dirty little secrets, and he’s keeping tabs. And the reason he can’t stand you? It’s because you’re too vicious. Even the god might get tired of your act and will take away the baby you’re carrying.”
Megan was livid, her face turning a shade of crimson. She raised her hand to slap Lana, but her wrist was caught mid-air.
“Ladies don’t settle their scores with violence,” Lana warned, her grip tight, “If you dare hit me, I’ll make sure you won’t be able to carry that baby to term.”
Instinctively, Megan protected her belly, “You wouldn’t dare. This child is Leopold’s.”
“So what?” Lana shrugged nonchalantly, “If I cause you to lose it, I’ll just have to have another one to make it up to him.” She covered her mouth and chuckled, a sound that sent shivers down Megan’s spine.
Aurelia admired her fearlessness. Even though she wasn’t sure about the true nature of Lana’s relationship with Leopold, she acknowledged that Lana was a formidable ally.
Megan was beside herself, gasping for air in her rage.
“My child is worth a thousand of whatever you could produce,” she hissed.
"Oh, really?" Lana mocked, "Playing the innocent card now, are we? We're both mistresses here. Neither of us has any upper hand over the other. Just a heads up, don't even think about crossing me. If I lose even a hair over your schemes, I’ll make sure to turn that little thing inside you into a formaldehyde specimen for your collection.”
