Aurelia let out a soft sigh, "I just can't muster much hope for our future."
Leopold's grip tightened as he pulled her to face him, "What exactly don't you trust about me?"
She pouted slightly, "Your moods swing like a pendulum, and your temper flips faster than the pages of a book. Who knows when you'll grow tired of me, and start finding fault. I'd rather not follow in your mother's footsteps."
Leopold said firmly, "After we renew our vows, I get a vasectomy. Then you'll have nothing to worry about."
Aurelia choked, "Are you joking?"
His lips curved into a serious line as he stared at her intently, "I'm dead serious. I'd do anything to put your mind at ease."
Hearing his words, she felt a stampede of turmoil.
"I still want to have a daughter. If you go through with that, I might have to find someone else."
Leopold captured her chin, planting a soft kiss on her lips, "Then we'll wait until after our daughter is born for that." He had longed for a daughter for ages.
Aurelia shot him a coy glance, "Let's talk about that later. If your playboy genes start acting up, then you can consider the vasectomy."
"Alright, then let's work on making that daughter now," Leopold said with a mischievous smile, and in one swift motion, he pinned her beneath him.
It was in these moments of love and passion that they could cast aside all worries, let loose, and revel in the joy of body and soul.
In the morning, Leopold whipped up a hearty beef stew for Aurelia and Kane.
The three of them sat at the dining table, a picture of harmony.
Kane sported a charming grin and thought, "Last night, inspired and spurred on by me, Dad must have made up with Mom."
"Dad, Mom, it's been a while since we've all eaten together. It really feels like family," he said.
Leopold tousled Kane's hair, "We are a family."
