But if he didn't go, Quentin would have him axed from the company. Identifying himself merely as Ryan's uncle and believing the chances of a perfect match were slim, he went through the donor matching process, albeit reluctantly. Astonishingly, he ended up being a perfect match.
The saying "Like nephew, like uncle" was true.
Perry was scared out of his wits. As soon as the results came in, he fled Starfall City under the cover of night and hid away.
Marianne made her way to the hospital to "visit" Ryan.
In the hospital room, Ryan lay on the bed, losing his temper at his mother, Laverne. "I don't want to eat. Weren't you supposed to find that witch Marianne? Why isn't she here donating a kidney? I don't want to die!"
Marianne strode in. "Still expecting me to give you my kidney, huh? Sorry to burst your bubble, but I’ve just talked to the doctor. If the blood types don't match, the transplant won't work. You're Type A, and I'm Type B. My kidney's no good for you."
Laverne glared at her venomously. "What are you doing here? You're not welcome."
Marianne let out a cold, mirthless laugh. "I’m here to see karma in action. You strutted around like a peacock when you had a son, challenging my mother. Now it looks like the heavens want to take your son, and you can't have any more kids. The Clark family has no room for you now."
A muscle twitched viciously on Laverne's face. "What nonsense are you talking about? Stop cursing Ryan with your damn mouth. He's going to be fine."
In a rage, Ryan grabbed a cup from the table and hurled it at Marianne. "You snake, are you here to stake your claim on the inheritance? Everything in the Clark family is mine. You won't get a penny."
Marianne deftly sidestepped, and the cup hit Laverne instead, causing her to grunt in pain.
Marianne clicked her tongue. "On death's door and still worried about the family properties? But I do have some good news for you. We've found a kidney for you."
"Who? Someone's going to donate?" Ryan asked urgently.
"Someone's a match. And that person is your Uncle Perry. But he's not willing to donate. He's run off somewhere," Marianne articulated each word clearly and forcefully.
A sharp spasm crossed Ryan's shoulder. "Mom, is she telling the truth? Has Uncle Perry run away?"
Laverne's face turned pale and green, and she gritted her teeth in anger.
