"Things can change, people too," Kevin whispered softly.
Aurelia didn't understand what he meant.
She and Leopold were immutable, or so she thought.
A wave of unease washed over her for the entire afternoon. She feared that Leopold would confront her about something. Thankfully, he did not summon her, and Evelyn was nowhere to be seen.
Presumably, he was wrestling with his sorrow, mourning the loss of his beloved.
In the evening, upon returning to her apartment, she was greeted by the sight of a man on her couch.
No way! What was he doing here?
Shouldn't he be at home, clinging onto his beloved’s picture, lost in his profound grief?
Leopold had shed his formal black attire, opting for a more casual ensemble. He sipped on his coffee, and his attention was fixed on various business websites.
His handsome face was devoid of any discernible emotion. Was it sorrow? Was it pain? It was hard to tell.
"Mr. Leopold, you've knocked off quite early today."
She greeted him awkwardly, quickly retreating to her room, like a mouse that had just seen a cat.
No sooner had she reached the hallway when she was abruptly stopped by a towering figure, "You're really getting bold, aren't you?"
Leopold's expression suddenly turned cold, as if engulfed by the chill of a Siberian blizzard.
He had suppressed his anger all afternoon!
Aurelia's heart skipped a beat.
Was it time to settle scores?
"I haven't done anything."
She shrunk back, attempting to escape into her room, only to be cornered against the wall.
"Are you secretly colluding with Arnold?"
His gaze bore into her, icy and unyielding, his tone akin to a judge interrogating a defendant!
She shivered.
What the hell?
