Tanya's lips slightly tightened as she pondered strategies to secure Megan's position. She could never let Aurelia slip back into the picture.
Aurelia was a cunning vixen, appearing meek and docile, the epitome of harmlessness, but she was a master at winning people over.
Not only could she charm men, but she could also bewitch women. She would become Leopold's right-hand woman without anyone noticing it happening.
"Jessica, isn't it a bit too harsh? Even if Megan and that adulterer are beyond redemption, the child is innocent. Isn't it like imprisonment to trap him on an isolated island for life? It's just too sad!"
Jessica glanced toward Tanya idly. "A bastard child is lucky enough to be alive. That's a kindness in itself."
Tanya felt her anger coiling like a spring. That child was her grandson, not some bastard!
She picked up the coffee cup from the table, gulping down the contents to quell her rising fury.
“Stay calm. Don't give yourself away.” Tanya reminded herself in her heart.
Inside the house, Aurelia made rose jam, muffin cookies, a loaf of bread, and a fruit salad.
Jessica had to watch her cholesterol and couldn't indulge in too many sweets, so the fruit salad was especially for her.
Skyler had set out chili powder and ketchup. Dip a piece of bread in the rose jam and then in the chili for a tangy contrast. Divine!
"Let's dig in."
The bread with rose jam and ketchup was downright delicious!
Jessica and Tanya returned from the garden to join in the afternoon tea.
Tanya could see Jessica was quite taken with Aurelia, her former daughter-in-law. Though she didn't show it outright, her actions spoke volumes. She wouldn't have invited Aurelia over if she didn't like her.
Jessica's fondness for Aurelia was from her sensible and virtuous demeanor and understanding of her son, Leopold. Besides Aurelia, he wouldn't accept another woman.
Jessica wasn't a domineering woman and had no desire to control. She let Leopold make his decisions and choose his path since he was little.
