The Deserted Rich Beauty novel Chapter 1957

"Are the higher-ups thinking of taking back the military project and handing it over to Eric Ferguson?”

Floyd's speculation was not without reason.

Grant said, "They didn't say it explicitly, but I don’t think they'll do that. Eric's advantages aren't enough to counter the immense benefits brought by the South African base. I think the higher-ups might want us to have sole ownership of the project. Or at least, they want us to have control over it and not be passive. After all, this military project involves various countries' sensitive aspects and can’t be ignored."

Hearing this, Nicole suddenly felt her limbs turning cold.

Eric's words during the day flooded into her mind again.

She had a feeling that Clayton's project might have really gone wrong.

Nicole subconsciously pushed the door open and walked in.

Grant and Floyd did not expect Nicole to come back at this time, so they were startled.

Floyd responded first.

"You came back so soon? Did you have a good time?"

Nicole paused and pursed her lips.

"Don’t lie to me. Did something happen to Clayton?"

Floyd was silent.

Grant glanced at him and then at Nicole.

"Clayton didn't tell you?”

Nicole shook her head.

"But I met Eric just now. He said that Clayton colluded with foreign arms dealers and that there was a problem in the South African laboratory. Is that true?"

She was a little flustered, but she remained calm on the surface.

It was not because of the military project, but because she was worried that Clayton would get into trouble.

Military projects were not uncommon in foreign countries. Nicole did not ask Clayton about the scale of it, but she figured that it should be quite significant since the domestic military project would rather give up working with Eric to choose Clayton instead.

If something happened, it would involve all aspects and would definitely affect personal safety.

Clayton was still abroad. If something really happened, he would be out of reach.

Grant pursed his lips and wondered if he should tell Nicole about it.

The room was completely silent.

Nicole could not help but ask, "Big Brother, please tell me. Is it true?”

Floyd sighed ;g*=UIT= looked at Grant.

"Go ahead. She'll overthink it if you don’t tell her."

Grant pursed his lips and nodded.

"Eric's only partially right. Clayton didn't tell you probably because he was afraid that you'd be worried. We had the same thought, too. I heard that his base in South Africa sold a batch of weapons with problems, so the other party is finding trouble with Clayton. They’re a very powerful organization, so this incident caused a relatively bad impact. But that doesn’t rule out the possibility that they're deliberately finding fault with Clayton.

There’s also a rumor that they're trying to settle accounts with Clayton.”

Nicole's face turned pale.

Floyd paused. "Don’t worry about this. Clayton is capable enough to protect himself, so he'll be fine."

Grant nodded.

Nicole's heart sank a little. When they were on the phone just now, Clayton casually shared all the fun things he encountered.

He did not mention the trouble he

encountered.

Was it because he was worried that she would overthink things at home?

However, she felt even more worried if he did not share his troubles with her.

Floyd looked at Grant and returned to the topic.

"So, the military project we're currently handling can't proceed for the time being?"

Grant nodded.

"Yes, it must be suspended for now. If something goes wrong at the research base in South Africa, the higher-ups intend to cut the losses in time. But as far as I know, they haven’t approached other partners yet. They probably still have high expectations, but is it too much to let Clayton give up the dominant power...” Although Grant did not finish his sentence, they all knew what he meant.

Regardless of beliefs, Clayton was a businessman.
